CanCooker- Perfect for Cooking up Holiday Meals! #ChristmasMDR16

November 7, 2016 by Pam Maynard

A Complete Meal in less than an Hour!

I have always loved the thought of using a pressure cooker to make a meal quickly, but the whole pressure thing, steam burns and  the weight of the pot always scares me.  BUT, I was so excited when I found out about the CanCooker.  At first, I just wanted to try to make sweet treats in it, but after reading more about it, I decided to make a pork roast first instead.  My 3 pound Pork roast was done to perfect in about 50 minutes!

About the CanCooker:

The CanCooker is a steamer and uses the basic principals as a convection oven.    The Cancooker produces a deep penetrating steam that cooks food to perfection.   There is a small hole in the lid so that it is passive and there is no pressure built up.  You can open and close the lid at anytime.

The CanCooker and CanCooker Jr. are made of 1060 FDA grade approved aluminum.  The CanCooker has an anodized coating which is important as it means the actual aluminum never touches your food. This material has the second best heat transfer next to copper.

Just in time for the holiday season, CanCooker, Inc., the company that reinvented the old-fashioned-creamery-style can as a portable convection oven that steam-cooks a complete meal in an hour, has introduced

How do you use the CanCooker?

The CanCooker is easy and simple to use.   Spray the inside of the CanCooker with non stick spray prior to using each time.  This will make a slick walled environment and make clean up a breeze.  Then add vegetables, meat and spices.    Add minimum of 12 ounces of any liquid (unless the recipe calls for more) over the food and place on a low to medium heat source.  It will take about 15 minutes for the CanCooker to steam.  Once the CanCooker begins to steam you will have a healthy and delicious meal in 45-60 minutes.

My Thoughts:

Being a busy wife, mom, blogger and MRI tech, I really dislike cooking complicated, labor-intensive meals.  I tried the CrockPot- but in most of those meals, all the food comes out tasting the same.  My son doesn’t care for those type of squishy foods that taste blah.  We do grill a lot, but we don’t normally grill when it’s below 20 degrees or when it’s raining really hard.  We have our grill under our porch cover, but it’s a losing battle when it’s so cold out.

When I received my CanCooker- I was thrilled at how light weight it was.  The inside is coated for easy cleaning.  They still recommend spraying it with non-stick cook spray.  The mouth is wide, making it easier to load with your meal.  It came with a rack so you can keep your food a little above the water/seasonings.

I used 1/2 a bottle of Italian Dressing, some Teriyaki sauce, water and various spices.  You only need 12 ounces of liquid for the CanCooker to steam properly. I added a few potatoes after I cut them in half.

After the cooker started steaming (that took about 10 minutes) I turned the heat down to medium-low, set the time for 50 minutes and waited!  After the timer went off, I let it sit for 5 minutes, as instructed.  I carefully removed the lid and was rewarded with this beautifully cooked pork roast and potatoes!  Nothing was dry and the potatoes tasted like seasoned potatoes, not mushy lumps that tasted like pork.

The end result:

My son LOVED the pork and potatoes!  It was all so tender and tasty!

I love that you can use the CanCooker at home, camping, on a hot plate, basically, anywhere with a heat source.  There is no dangerous pressure buildup and no waiting for hours for your meal to be done.  It’s my favorite new kitchen cookware!

One of the best parts is the clean up- I sprayed it with Non-Stick Cooking Spray and it cleaned up like a dream.  Now the question is- what am I going to make next??

Yes, you can make desserts in the CanCooker too!

There are new CanCooker recipes to make single-serve cakes, cupcakes and mini loaves of specialty bread. Not only do these delicious treats cook faster in a CanCooker, but the finished products are moister than if they were baked in a conventional oven or a microwave.
