7 Tips for Moving Your Large Family Across State Lines

October 16, 2016 by Pam Maynard

When you’re preparing for a move, there are several tasks to complete when relocating across state lines. The moving process can often become overwhelming for those who are not prepared. To ensure that you enjoy a smooth and successful move, there are a few important tips to follow.

7-tips-for-moving-your-large-family-across-state-lines
1. Hire a Pet or Baby Sitter

Hire someone to watch your pets or kids during the moving day to ensure that your loved ones stay safe and do not get lost in the shuffle or loading everything onto the moving truck.

2. Hire a Moving Company

Hiring a moving company is essential to reducing the risk of a move and packing up everything in a shorter amount of time. Hire a professional company like Midway Moving & Storage to pack up your belongings and bring a moving truck that is large enough to transport everything in one trip.

3. Forward Your Mail

To ensure that you avoid losing any mail while crossing state lines, you’ll need to update your address with the post office to forward any packages or bills that you receive. You also want to update the address with your credit card companies, bank, and employer.

4. Pack a Bag of Essentials

From toilet paper to hand soap, there are a number of items that you’ll need to use immediately after arriving at your new home. Having a bag of the essentials on hand will make it easier to use the restroom or wash your hands at your new place without digging through dozens of boxes.

5. Color Code Each Room

Keep your boxes organized during a major move by color coding each box to ensure that your movers know which room it should be placed in after the items are unloaded. Opt for using colorful tape and markers on each box to distinguish them from one another.

6. Scan Important Documents

It can be easy to lose important documents while moving due to a number of items that you need to have on hand. To avoid losing valuable information, scan the documents and email them to yourself to back them up.

7. Use Wardrobe Boxes

Wardrobe boxes make it easier to pack your clothes and make it easier to transport the contents of your closets.

Although it may be challenging to move across state lines, there are several ways to do it with ease. By hiring the right professionals and using different tools, you can enjoy a smooth transition to your new home.
