Green and Environmental-Friendly Lunch Boxes

July 17, 2012 by Pam Maynard

Being green is very important nowadays. And it’s not only through planting trees wherein you can be green lover. Even with lunch boxes, you can become green. And through the lunch boxes, you can spread the green campaign through your children and loved ones. One way of being green is to replace the plastic utensils and containers with the reusable ones.

Green and Environmental-Friendly Lunch Boxes

Here are some of the tips wherein you can save money and be green with lunch boxes.

1.) Have a stylish lunch kit. Instead of using paper bags, why not use bags or lunch boxes that you can reuse everyday. There are a lot of designs and styles that you can choose from, and some are from recycled materials. But remember that older kids would prefer having lunch boxes that are designed plainly and without any cartoon characters or superheroes.

2.) Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins.

It is better if you have cloth napkins that you will just wash after use, instead of disposable paper napkins. You will save a lot of money and you can save the environment as well. Just pack one in your kids’ lunch boxes.

3.) Use utensils that are reusable. It is better if you pack reusable utensils in your kids’ lunch boxes rather than the disposable and plastic ones. You can save money when you stop using disposable ones.

4.) Use Stainless Steel Containers. When you use stainless steel containers, you are avoiding the chemicals like bisphenol A and phthalates. These containers are lightweight and durable and have compartments.

5.) Stop using plastic bags for lunch boxes.

You will save a lot when you use reusable bags, instead of plastic bags for sandwiches and snacks. This option is much cheaper and more eco-friendly than using plastic bags.

6.) It is better if you buy snacks that come from big bags. It is another way of packing green lunch boxes for your children. Through that, you are cutting the amount of packaging that is used, and you are avoiding the wastage of food when your kids don’t eat the whole pack. You can also save more money when you buy in bulk rather than in pieces.

7.) For drinking bottles, use the reusable ones. Although juice packs are convenient, they can add to the waste and they can lower down the amount of sugar that your children take. Instead, use reusable bottles and fill with water, juice or milk.

8.) Pack organic foods in the lunch boxes. Organic foods can help the environment and your kids can have a healthier life. Though sometimes these foods are expensive, but they are worth it.
