Five Tips Every Parent Should Know For Keeping Their Children Safe

August 27, 2016 by Pam Maynard

As parents, we should always be aware of the things around us to prevent children from avoidable accidents. Although we can’t avoid every accident we can help prevent quite a few. If you can follow these simple safety tips, then you should be able to let your children be as adventurous as they want without having to worry about too many risks.

Five Tips Every Parent Should Know For Keeping Their Children Safe

Recycle Bulky TVs

If you have an older bulky TV, you really should recycle it and upgrade to a safer flat screen. Unfortunately, many heavy bulky TVs can lead to dangerous situations with hyper children around. If larger TV’s get knocked over it is very possible that they could fall on top of your child. Luckily advancements in technology have led to safer and thinner TV’s. Be sure to take time to replace all of your bulky TV’s in the recycling bin and invest in thinner screens. If you are keeping your bulky TV, be sure to place it very low to the ground on a solid base.

Always Keep Track Of Medications

About 60,000 children in the USA have to be treated each year for taking an adult’s medication. You should be sure all of your medicines are in high areas away from the curious hands of children. You may also want to child proof your medicine cabinet. That way you can ensure that your children are completely unable to get into your medicine. In case of emergency, be sure you have your local poison control phone number on speed dial.

Safety With Sports

Coaches should allow their players a water break at least every 20 minutes, and all coaches should be trained in CPR, first aid, and AED use. Helmets should always be worn, but keep in mind that wearing a helmet is no guarantee for preventing concussions. Everyone should be aware of the symptoms of concussion, which include dizziness, headache, temporary loss of consciousness, memory problems, nausea, and/or vomiting.

Avoid Distractions

Let’s face it, we live in a distracted age. But you can set a good example for your children by never texting while driving. Limit your child’s time on the cell phone, and teach them the value of doing one thing at a time. Also, be sure to teach your children to be alert in public places and never zone out in areas full of cars.

Check All Safety Devices Regularly

The official recommendation for changing the batteries of CO alarms is once every year. Officials say it is best to replace all CO devices every ten years. You should also plan a fire escape route and teach it to your children.

If you follow these few simple tips you should be able to avoid a lot of unnecessary accidents. However, of course, accidents happen. Luckily, there is always professional help out there for you just in case. You can always contact Personal Injury Attorneys to get help with a lot of different accidents. Workers like this can really help make you feel safe and comfortable again and make sure that you get the help and support that you need.
