Mother of the Bride: How to Make Sure your Daughter has the Perfect Wedding Day

June 25, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Being the mother of the bride is a big deal. You must make sure that everything from the flowers to the bridal veil is perfect. Even if the bride hires a wedding planner, your role is to ensure everything is in top shape for the big day. Here are some to ensure your daughter’s day is picture perfect.

Help with the Venue Selection

Deciding the venue is one of the hardest tasks for brides. They want the venue to be perfect ascetically, but can it accommodate all the people for the wedding? Working with a venue especially for weddings and other big celebrations is always best. Take for instance Noah’s Event Venues. They specialize in big events and have the space that is needed for a grand wedding. While some brides want a church or community center, what they really need is a place that is already set up for this type of function.

Be There for Moral Support

Even if your daughter does not need you to do much to help out, she does need you to be there for moral support. She may want you to coordinate things and work with the wedding planner. She may need a shoulder to cry on or a lunch date to vent. While a wedding is one of the most special days a girl will have, it can also be a very stressful time. Sometimes, if you will just listen and allow your daughter to vent, it can make a world of difference.

Take Care of the Small Things

Tradition is important for a wedding. A bride must have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. If you have anything that is left over from your wedding or even her grandmothers, bring it along to her special day. Sentimentality goes a long way at a wedding celebration.

Remember it is Her Day

Emotions are always raw during planning for a wedding. If your daughter yells at you, asks you to step back, or even is mad at you; know that she probably does not mean it. Make sure that you do not overstep your bounds as it is your daughter’s wedding. Remember, she needs the freedom to plan her day the ways she sees fit. You may not see eye to eye on everything and that is okay. Being a support system does not mean making the decisions for her. Make her day easier and not harder.

Make sure your daughter has plenty of time to plan the wedding. The average wedding takes six months to one year to plan. When things are done at the last minute, it creates more havoc and things can get out of hand. Additionally, venue spaces fill up quickly. The sooner you start preparing, the better off you will be.
