Gearing up Your Garage: Storage Tips to make it Neater

May 13, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Although it can be easy to keep the inside of your home tidy, the garage is often a place that attracts clutter. From sporting equipment to tools, there are a number of miscellaneous items that can be difficult to separate and keep in order since you probably don’t spend a lot of time here. To ensure you keep everything tidy, there are a few different garage storage tips to follow for a neater space.

Install Shelves and Cabinets

Instead of throwing different items into bins or leaving them out in plain sight, group like items and find areas where they can be within reach on shelves and cabinets. Holiday decorations may not be used as frequently and can be stored on a top shelf to free up more space on the garage floor. Sports equipment can be kept on lower shelves to make them easy to access when they’re used.

Hang Pegboard Panels

Organize your tools and make them easy to find by hanging them on pegboard panels above a workbench in the garage. Hang the tools that are used frequently closest to the work area, which can make them within arm’s reach.

Mount Racks Overhead

Mount racks overhead where you can store bikes, kayaks, and storage bins to free up more space on the ground in the garage. This will make it easier to park your car in the garage and make use of unused space that is big enough for larger items that need to be stored. You can also install hooks on the ceiling to hang items that have an awkward shape.

Use Containers for Small Parts

From screws to nails, there are a number of small parts that can easily get lost in the garage if they’re not organized correctly. Use a hardware and craft cabinet where you can group like items and have a place for each part. You can also label each drawer, which will make it easy to find the items and put them back when cleaning up. If you have a lot of extension cords, Americord adapters, and plugs, use hooks and pegs to lift them off the floor and keep yourself safer.

Wall Mounted Openers

Would you like more of your ceiling area clear? Wall-mounted garage door openers are a convenient and space-saving solution for any garage. These compact units are designed to be installed on the wall directly above the garage door, eliminating the need for a traditional ceiling-mounted opener. They offer several benefits, including easy access to controls and increased ceiling clearance.

Wall-mounted openers also provide quiet and smooth operation, ensuring minimal noise disturbance to your family whenever they are in use. With their sleek and modern design, they seamlessly blend into any garage decor.

Additionally, many models offer advanced features such as smartphone compatibility and battery backup, providing added convenience and peace of mind. So even if your power goes out, the backup battery ensures your car will never be trapped in the garage. Overall, wall mounted garage door openers offer an efficient and reliable solution for effortless garage door operation.

When you want to show off your garage to your neighbors and avoid feeling embarrassed when you open the garage door each day, there are a number of storage tips to follow to make it neat again. You’ll be able to get more use out of the space and find specific items at a faster rate to ensure that the garage has more functionality.
