Hosting The Perfect Dinner Party

June 16, 2012 by Pam Maynard

Although dinner parties are not as popular as they once were of you are hosting one then there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that it is perfect. Planning is essential as this will ensure that your dinner party is perfect in every way.

You will need to consider your guests and what type of dinner party you are aiming for. Although people always presume that dinner parties are very formal, you will find that you can have a fun dinner party and still impress your guests.

If you are looking to have a formal dinner party you should send out invitations and consider what day and date to have the party on. You need to consider peoples work schedules and events that are happening.

You do not your dinner party to clash with a major sporting event or a Child’s birthday so asking the guests before hand is an idea. If you send out the invitations in plenty of time and have a reasonable end time for the party then people do not feel they have to stay longer. Although some may stay, others can leave at the designated end time.

When planning the food and drink for your dinner party you should think about whom your guests are and what they would like. If you have any vegetarians or special requirements such as gluten free then you will need to cater for these as well.

Do not feel embarrassed if you have to ask them what they like to eat as if you love meat then sometimes you do not fully understand what a vegetarian would enjoy. You should plan your menu and then practice it before hand never cook a new menu for the dinner party as this could end in disaster.

A dinner party is a time for you to showcase your cooking skills and this will mean that you should cook a dish you have done many times before. If you are cooking food that you enjoy cooking then people will be able to tell and you will be far more relaxed.

You should great your guests with a small appetizer on their arrival and ensure that you offer drinks. Although you want your guests to have a good time, you do not want them to be drunk; so keep an eye on how much is being consumed. Serving fruit punch is an excellent way to keep your guests refreshed throughout the whole meal.

You should try to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible and if something goes wrong, don’t tell your guests. They don’t know if something is missing or hasn’t been done so do not draw their attention to it. Dressing the table is essential and you can get your best dinnerware out and dress to impress.

You can let your imagination go with the table and even the smallest of touches will be noticed. You should add table decorations and even name places to make everyone feel special. You want your guests to feel relaxed at your dinner party and that their evening was a pleasure not a chore.
