How to Throw a Fabulous Dinner Party for Friends

March 5, 2016 by Pam Maynard

There’s no better feeling in the world than having your home full of family and friends. Having a dinner party can be a great deal of work, but it is so worth the hassles. If you want to pull off a soiree worthy of royalty, here are four tips to help you out.

How to Throw a Fabulous Dinner Party for Friends

1. Go Big and Be Impressive

Forget buffet style, and instead have family-style service. This method puts everything on serving platters, large dishes and is great to serve a crowd of ravenous people. The whole experience will be fun and sociable. Fill the trays with thinks like baked salmon, roasted chicken or even sea bass. Allow guests to gather around and help themselves without the spread appearing to be an inexpensive buffet.

2. Create an Inviting Atmosphere

One of the worst things about going to a party is finding out there is not enough seating for everyone. Most people don’t have room in their home for large parties, so they need to rent tables and chairs. Companies like Party People Rentals & Sales can provide you with everything you need to create a great atmosphere for your guests. Nice table clothes and fine linens will create the ambiance your guests will enjoy.

3. Make Meal Types to Accommodate Various Diets

These days it seems that nearly anyone and everyone is eating some newfangled meal plan. In an attempt to include everyone, make sure to have foods that vegans, low carb, and those who are eating a low-fat diet can indulge in. It’s pretty devastating to attend a party that has nothing a person can eat. Rather, offer a wide variety to appease the masses.

4. Never Underestimate Candles and Mood Music

Part of creating a great party is setting the scene. Once you have a great menu, enough seating, and everything planned, you need to incorporate some sort of lighting and music. From a luau to a bar mitzvah, it’s all about creating the mood. The younger crowd may want to dance and have a good time while an older crowd may enjoy some great jazz. The mood of the party can be enhanced by the music and lighting.

The most important thing to remember about having an event is to allow plenty of preparation time. If the event stresses you to the point where you don’t enjoy yourself, then it isn’t worth having. You want to be sure that you have plenty of fun and enjoy the event too. Remember, if it’s worth having it’s worth enjoying. If you’re running around stressing, neither you nor your guests will have a good time.
