A home is nothing without the laughter and cackles of children. And your kids’ rooms are whatever they want them to be. Their little places filled with fascination, adventure and of course creativity. Decorating the room for your little ones can be an extremely rewarding, albeit challenging experience. It is also very essential as no matter how many leisure facilities your residential locality provides for kids’, they spend a majority of their time in their rooms. Whoever told you that decorating your kids’ rooms can be a pain, obviously didn’t have any experience with DIY weekend projects. So here’s a quick lowdown of a few projects you can undertake yourself.
- The creative corner: If you want your kids to stop painting on the walls, let them paint on the walls, if that sounds confusing, here’s what we mean. Purchase a couple of individual white boards and mount them on two overlapping corners. Frame these boards with attractive wooden or acrylic frames, and let your kids run wild on them with markers. This will enable them to have their wish of painting the walls, without leaving you the headache of cleaning their artwork off them.
- Stack ‘em up storage: Your little one’s room needs to be big on storage, so their Legos and other assorted toys do not end up on the floor, or even worse under beds. And since cupboards are for clothes, you can use plastic tubs, stacked one atop another (at reasonable height) to store their toys, junky knickknacks and stationery.
- Little boxes of joy: While boxy storage is the way to go for toys, knickknacks like toffees, crayons, color pens and other little items that bring a smile to children’s face can be stored in repurposed old tins. Print up some cute and funky labels (it’s easy, all you need is a printer and net connection!) and paste these on the old tins. 1-2-3, you have a little box of joy right there!
- Deck the mirrors up: Little kids, especially girls love spending their time in front of their mirrors playing dress up. If you want your little princess to have a vanity mirror that would put an actress to shame, here’s how you go about doing it. Buy a mirror and have it framed by a professional, then comes the DIY part, use the old fairy lights that you may have left over from Christmas or Diwali and tape them to the frame, giving it an instant fairytale, pussycat, glam doll feel!
- Flower power: Repurpose old milk bottles to create funky flower vases for your little girl’s room. Sterilize the old bottles. Then use acrylic colors in myriad shades like white, blue and pink. Add a couple of ribbons on the mouth of the bottles for extra pop.
Children need a space that they can laugh, play and grow in, DIY projects are the best way to ensure that your kids are both entertained and have a truly unique space, without it costing you the world! So when you are setting up your dream home, make sure you use these tips to create a wonderful room for your kids.
