Have you heard of Norm of the North yet? Every time my little ones see Norm dancing to “Shake it Off” in the movie trailer they get really excited! It looks like such a fun movie full of big adventures, life lessons, and self-confidence boosters.
About Norm of the North: Lionsgate’s latest movie release introduces audiences to Norm, a big-hearted, and talkative polar bear from the Arctic, as he ventures to NYC to prevent his beloved home from being overtaken by developers. With helpful friends at his side, Norm takes on the Big Apple, big business, and a big identity crisis as he tries to save the day!
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but what I understand from all of the information provided is that Norm is a polar bear who possesses qualities that other bears do not (like speaking) and he doesn’t fit in with his bear family very well. When tourist start arriving at his home, expecting shows from the animals and planning to develop lodging in the area, he is determined to make it stop! Instead of battling the tourist, he leaves for the big apple, New York City. While he is there he becomes a sensation, and, I assume, accomplishes his goal.
The moral of the story is that none of Norm’s accomplishments would have happened if he didn’t take a leap and head to New York City. So whatever your child is currently facing, Norm of the North can provide that message of confidence. Letting children know that it is a great thing to be different, to take chances, and to dare to be amazing!
