Carseats and Cheerios: How to Keep Your Backseat Distractions Occupied #Travelideas

January 9, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Even though children want their parent’s undivided attention all the time, it is unsafe to do this in the car. Undivided attention on the road leads to car accidents. Your kids are backseat distractions!

Car accidents and potential brain or bodily injuries require the hiring of a brain injury attorney. Sure, hiring a good attorney, like Lawyer Stephen Hornbuckle, is helpful for getting compensated for medical bills, pain and suffering.

However, it is much better to avoid the situation altogether and prepare for the times when the backseat contains a little toddler who wants attention. Here is how to make sure your car is safe when there is a potential distraction from the road in the backseat.

Pack fun snacks

After a certain amount of time, parents get a feel for what their little ones like to eat the most. Snacks are really important for children because kids love to be fed and they love anything tasty. This isn’t necessarily the time to try out new snacks.

If anything, present their favorite snacks in new, colorful containers that can double as fun toys. Most children will find a way to play with almost anything, including food.

Pack tactile activities

In an ideal world, a parent would be able to pack a few good page-turners and leave the child to enhance their brain with words. However, due to the age and development of toddlers, they’re typically not at that stage yet.

Toys are the best tactile activities to occupy children in their car seat. A great way to really captivate them is to go to the dollar store and purchase a few toys for a dollar each. Keep them hidden in the front of the car. For each car ride, introduce a new toy. This will give the child a new toy to look forward to and occupy them for a while.

Pack an iPad

An iPad and smart tablets are excellent for keeping children occupied. There are tons of interactive games to play that are educational and boatloads of fun. There are also lots of different television shows that are accessible with a good WiFi connection. Be sure to keep a charging cord that’s long enough to stay plugged in.

Also, make sure to have a quality personal WiFi hotspot to access to the internet when necessary. The iPad makes it so easy for children to stay quietly occupied and children can also wear headphones while using it, so this is even better for eliminating distracting noises as well.

If a good WiFi connection or personal hotspot is unavailable, simply download certain tv shows and games ahead of time. In this case, there’s already loads of content on the hard drive and it’s all accessible without the need for internet usage.

These tips are great for today’s parents to navigate the road and navigate their child’s attention span simultaneously. Even though a parent’s natural instinct is to keep their eyes on their child, it is much better to be safe than sorry. Keep these tips in mind for your backseat distractions and keep those eyes on the road!
