My “Best Family Gift” Award Goes to Homestar! #Review #MDRChristmas15

December 22, 2015 by Victoria

Disclosure.New.3

Have you ever wished that you could see the night sky while laying in the comfort of your bed? That is what happened to me this weekend thanks to Sega Toys!  I tried the Homestar high definition planetarium with an ultra-bright 3-watt LED and was instantly wowed! In seconds, I had 60,000 stars above my head.  It was such an exciting moment that my husband awoke our sleeping children to show them.  (It was just like that moment in the Croods movie when the family comes out of the canopy of the trees for the first time — a lasting memory.)

Project 60,000 stars onto your ceiling with this high definition planetarium. Ultra-bright LED bulbs display a brilliant night sky as the rotating projection follows the northern hemisphere throughout the year. Adjust the angle and focus to suit your surroundings, and set the timer to drift off to sleep under a peaceful, starry sky.

The Homestar Planetarium features 60,000 twinkling stars, an integrated shooting star function, a shut-off timer, adjustable projection angle, and focus.  It is made from durable plastics and has a modern, or even futuristic, look to it.  It would easily blend in with any home decor.

When you receive your Homestar it comes with two slides, AC Adapter, lens cap, instructions and a poster of the stars.   The two slides that arrive with your Homestar both show stars of the Northern Hemisphere: one features the stars with with highlighted constellations and the other is without.

How to Use Homestar:

Using your Homestar is simple. It operates on a stand that easily allows the system to project stars in any direction. Once you have your Homestar Planetarium in the general area you want it to be in, plug it in. Next, choose from one of the two slides, and insert it into the slide out tray –Turn it on!

After turning on the system, you will see stars on you surface of choice.  If you look at the top of the projector where the light comes from, there is a circle around the light. Use this circle to turn/adjust the focus of your stars until you get the best imagery.  Now that you have stared at the stars in amazement for awhile you can now add a little more effects to your stars by adding shooting stars and turning on the rotation feature. From this point, be prepared to sit in wonder for hours.

Mom’s Thoughts:

The Homestar Planetarium from Sega is really spectacular and gets our vote for Best Family Gift this year for Christmas!

We are huge planetarium lovers in our home and to be able to see so many stars in our own home is thrilling. The stars twinkle and the sky rotates.  When the shooting star appears my littlest ones get so excited and exclaim “there it is again mommy!”

Right now we are keeping the Homestar Planetarium in our living room, but the kids have asked for us to allow them to take it into their rooms at night.  I have a feeling we may need our own “Homestar Chart” so we can keep track of who’s turn it is to enjoy a night under the stars.

What’s “The Grommet”?

The Sega Homestar Planetarium is available at The Grommet. What is The Grommet?  The Grommet is a product launch platform. This means they “find unique, undiscovered products and help them succeed.”

Our goal is to level the playing field so the best companies can win. Until The Grommet came along in 2008, that was simply not always the case. We have attracted a powerful community of Makers, Retailers and Consumers whose enthusiasm for suggesting, sharing, and buying Grommets ensures the survival and growth of the ground-breaking companies behind them. In the summer of 2014 we launched a new Wholesale Platform at the White House Maker Faire to connect these independent Makers with Main Street Retailers, supporting both and ensuring their success. Our end goal is that within five years 10% of all products flowing through U.S. retail will be originating from independent small-scale Makers, creating vibrant jobs and innovative products in every corner of our country.  Learn more about The Grommet’s mission HERE.
