Mom Does Reviews has been anticipating the release of the Minions movie on Blu-ray + DVD for months, and it finally arrived!  Last week we ran to Target to pickup our own Minions Metal Pak Blu-ray + DVD so we could have a fantastic minions party to celebrate. Why Target? Because the deluxe metal pak is a Target exclusive with 40 minutes of Target Exclusive content — including MINION CRAFTS!

While we were at Target my little ones had a ball looking though all of the additional Minions licensed products available for purchase.  We found books, plush toys, and all sorts of super cute minion-everything!

Stuart’s Ukulele Craft Tutorial

Included with the Minions Blu-ray + DVD Target exclusive Metal Pak is a bonus disk with crafts to make at home.  These fantastic ideas inspired us to make our own minion craft replica of Stuart’s Ukulele!   Make Stuart’s Ukulele for your Minions movie party by following the tutorial below.

Stuart’s Ukulele Supplies:

  • Black Foam Board
  • White Foam Board
  • Tape
  • Brown Spray Paint
  • Pencil
  • Black Marker
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks
  • Fishing Line
  • Plush Minion for Inspiration (Optional)

Preparing your black foam board: Use a pencil to free draw a ukulele body onto the board.   (Remember, Stuart’s ukulele isn’t perfect, neither should the shape of your ukulele.)

Tape random sharp lines onto the body of the ukulele. Take the board outside to a paint protected area. Spray paint the board brown (only the top side needs to be brown.) Allow to dry.  Remove tape.

Once the paint has dried.  Use your marker to outline the ukulele face, soundhole, and bridge. Cut the face/body/soundhole of the ukulele away from the black foam board.

Use the face of the ukulele to create the backside of the body.  Cut and set aside.

Cut one or two, 1 inch thick, binding strips from the remaining brown/black foam board.

Use your black marker to cover any white edges.

Bend the fibers of the 1 inch strip to allow it to bend into the outline of the ukulele. Hot glue the foam binding strip onto the front and back body of the ukulele.  Allow to dry.

On the white foam board, using a ruler, create the neck/fretboard of the ukulele (it should be shorter than the ukulele body, and 2 inches wide).  Draw the frets and make the tuner knobs into bone shape.  Cut away the excess foam board, set neck/fretboard aside.

Make a slinder slash in the top of the ukulele body the width of the neck. Insert the neck and hot glue.  Hold fretboard level while the glue dries.

Cut four pieces of fishing line the length of the ukulele. Glue strings onto the body at the bridge, and at the tip of the headstock.  Space them evenly.

Glue a rectangle brown/black foam piece onto the bridge to further tighten the strings and keep them in place.

Draw and cut a headstock from leftover pieces of brown/black foam board.  This piece should resemble a rough wooden trapezoid.  Glue the headstock on top of the strings to further tighten them.
