Easy Christmas Light #Craft #DIY #ChristmasCraft #MDRChristmas15

December 20, 2015 by Pam Maynard

I love crafts. In fact, I’ve become kinda obsessed with making neat little decorations that doesn’t take long and are cute. I made this candle holder in an afternoon with a cardboard box, flameless candles, hot glue and paint.

Because of the holidays, I have so many cardboard boxes these days. I’m really glad that I found a craft that I can use one for.  To make this,  take the closing flaps and cut them off the box. Then cut 32, (1/2” tall, 5” long) strips out of them. I used a ruler and a cutting mat for even strips and to protect the table below, but you can cut them on a cutting board.  Also cut out a square piece of the cardboard to use as the bottom of the candle holder.

Paint the pieces to make them look more Christmas-y.  The colors, red and white reminds me of a candy cane!  But, red and green would work, as well.

Use craft glue to glue the cardboard strips together, making 8 squares. Once they are painted, glued and dried, make the “tower” of squares, placing the solid square on the bottom. (Some touch up paint may be needed.)

Use hot glue to place four dots at each layer connecting spots. This is where it gets tricky. You have to place the layers fast, and make sure they don’t move. If the layers move, your candle holder will be crooked.

Lastly, place two flameless candles in the holder and turn them on.  I think that it looks really nice, and the farther away you are, the more it looks like wood, but lightweight.  This cute candle holder glows so nicely, it doesn’t put out a lot of light, after all it is only two tea light candles. I placed the candleholder on my fireplace mantle and it completed my Christmas look!

This is an easy craft that you can make with your children, (of course, don’t let them play with the hot glue gun).  My kids love to paint anything, so, let your kids get as creative as possible.  Use stencils to give it another layer of festiveness.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!
