Callaloo The Legend of the Golden Coqui
Callaloo is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that embarks on an exciting journey between best friends on Christmas Eve night. The main character, Winston and his sidekick Marisol travel many different ways as they adventure from New York City, all the way to Puerto Rico!
While supposedly out picking up recao (cilantro) for Winston’s Abuela (grandmother), they have other plans in mind. You see, the Golden Coqui frog is trapped in El Yunque Rainforest and desperately needs their help.
On their journey, Winston and Marisol use clues left by the Taino Indians and guidance by the coquis to navigate their way through the enchanted forest in hopes of completing their mission. Along the way, the two friends stop for bits of information needed to solve the mystery of the Golden Coqui. In a race against time, Winston and Marisol must avoid the evil Chupacabra, solve the mystery and make it back home for Abuela’s Nochebuena (Christmas Eve) dinner!
The Legend of the Golden Coqui is the second Callaloo book and has officially been released to the public this month! Don’t delay, order your copy here!
The story is written in English and Spanish. The book provides context clues on each page to help you learn the spanish words if you are not bilingual. In addition, the back of the book has a full vocabulary section that defines each Spanish word with an English definition.
