Here is a fun ornament you can make with your kids! I would even make some as decorations for your Christmas Presents! Aren’t they cute?
What a cute little mouse to deck your tree limbs with this year! She, (or he) will be a very sweet addition to your tree this year. This little woodland creature is so easy to make and will make you the envy of all your friends. They will think you are the most craftiest and creative for having sweet little mice on your tree!
Here’s how you make her (or him):
- Choose your color for the ears, tail and nose. (I like pink)
- You will need little chocolate candies like the ones pictured. I did cut out the paper pieces that are attached to these with scissors. I add my own tails because I want them to match. If you want to leave the store tails, go ahead. It’ll add character (and be easier for you!)
- I wasn’t going to use my hot glue gun for fear of it melting the chocolate. However, I realized, that glue dots do not hold the candies together as well as the hot glue, and the chocolate didn’t melt. What melted the chocolate was holding the candies too long. (So here’s a tip: put them down as much as possible.)
- I cut the ears and nose out of foam sheets. It was the easiest thing. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Just make cute little ears and a triangle nose. You could even use a cute pom pom for the nose if you can find one small enough. I glued the ears between the two pieces of candy.
- I took a piece of heavy weighted thread (you could also use fishing line, but fishing line is slick.) Loop it around, knot it and make the hanger. Slip it between the crease of the candies and if you can, glue it in place. You don’t want anything coming apart.
- Next, you’re going to take two eyes and glue them to this mouse. Being as small as this creature is, I found that using a pair of tweezer have become beneficial to my fingers. (Hot glue and I don’t mix all the time and I have the scars to prove it.) I love my tweezers for projects!
- Take three pieces of the thread and the pink triangle, glue them to the tip of the mouse’s face and BAM! You have the cutest little mouse on the block!
These mice shouldn’t take very long to make. If you’re going to have your children help you with these Christmas ornaments, don’t let them play with the glue gun, it will be HOT.
I’d let them help with putting the candies together, placing eyes, tails, whiskers, etc. They will love helping. Or, they can eat the extra candy while giving your tips like my younger child did while my older child helped make mice. (There’s always one!)
What would you do to make your mice the cutest on the whole Christmas Tree?
Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
This ornament is part of the 30 Days of Homemade Kid Ornaments Event!
Enjoy!
