Celebrating Your Team: 3 Things to Not Forget At Your Next Football Watch Party

October 16, 2015 by Pam Maynard

Are you ready for some football? Or rather, are you ready for football parties? As your favorite team gears up to battle for turf on the football field, now is a good time for you to make preparations to entertain hungry and excited guests at your next football watching party. Here are three things you don’t want to forget when putting together a baller bash.

football watching

Fab Fit Foods

Hamburgers, hot dogs, and seven-layer dips are all game day favorites. However, you should make an effort to squeeze a few healthy foods in between the fatty, salty, and sugary treats. In addition to providing people who may be watching their calorie intake with something to light to eat, low-fat low-calorie items can help cleanse the palate.

A few healthy snack ideas include fruit and vegetable salads, trail mix, baked unsauced chicken wings, white bean dip, baked sweet potato fries, turkey meatballs, hummus, and honey roasted peaches.

Festive Decorations

Get your group revved up for the big game with festive decorations. No matter where you decide to host your party (at home or in the parking lot of the stadium), there are a number of things you can do to express your team spirit.

A personalized football banner with your team’s name can work as a backdrop for the television set or be hung between the bumpers of two vehicles to identify both your party and your support. Life-sized cutouts of your favorite football players can bring some of the action into your home while also providing endless interesting photo opportunities. Megaphones, whistles, and clackers help you celebrate every touchdown, and streamers, Mylar balloons, and lights in your team’s colors can really spice up any room or outdoor setting. Many of these decorations are available from places online in the colors you are looking for. To help you save money, use free shipping coupons like the Oriental Trading promo codes offered by DiscounTrue.

Half-Time Games

Some people may be into watching the half-time show. For those who aren’t, however, you’ll want to have some games your guests can pass the time with until the second half starts.

One game that can be played inside or outside is bean bag toss. Use washable spray paint (or other removable items) to mark off yard lines and then take turns throwing bean bags as far across these lines as possible. The team that gains the most yards wins.

Football trivia is another game that can be fun for any football fan. Spend the time asking each other questions about the team or individual players. The person who gets the most questions right wins the prize.

A third game that can double as a way to feed your guests is to have a half-time cook off. Since halftime is typically only about 20 minutes long, you’ll want to choose a food that can be cooked and served within that time frame. Alternatively, you can have the participants cook their items beforehand and simply warm the food up during halftime. In either event, you’ll need to prepare a way for other guests to rate the meals and vote on the winner.

With football season on the horizon, taking time to plan your football party now will pay off in lots of fun and excitement later.
