BloomSky, a WiFi-connected weather station that provides real-time sky images, weather data and daily time-lapse videos accessible through a mobile app. It has been not only a learning experience but a family bonding experience for us. We not only watch the sky all day, but look forward to our playback at the end of the day.
BloomSky provides families live weather information of their neighborhood, local school or other location of interest so parents can send kids to school with the right jacket, teachers can better teach weather science, and homeowners can become a community resource for their neighbors. Access to the app is free and available for iOS through the Apple App Store and for Android on Google Play.
BloomSky is fun, educational and easy to use!
BloomSky kit comes with everything you need to set it up. It has it own power source- a solar pane! It’s easy to set up. My son and hubby set it up in a few minutes. As you can see, we all had to make sure it was pointing in the right direction- don’t forget, that camera angle adds about 100 pounds to our bodies, LOL.
Additionally, BloomSky is conducting a wider educational pilot project to donate a number of BloomSky outdoor weather station kits (complete with solar panels and mounting bracket) to schools across the country. The goal is to help make meteorological study more engaging for students and science teachers alike with the ability to track weather from your own weather station as well as weather from other places around the world through the app.
Why we LOVE BloomSky:
My hubby is a HUGE Weather addict. He has to have silence during the news, especially when the weather is on. When we lived in Florida, he wasn’t quite as bad as we knew what the weather would bring- heat, humidity and afternoon showers. In New England, we never know! He likes to plan out his day or week according to the weather. Some days are too rainy to get things done outside. Some days are too beautiful to spend inside.
We were gone for most of this gorgeous fall weekend, but we were able to see the weather in our front yard right from our smart phones! One of our newest favorite family activity is to watch it play back every night.
It’s very easy to keep up with our local weather- no need to check the thermostat anymore, just look at the BloomSky app! We can even keep up with the weather in various parts of the United States where our relatives live. There are BloomSky units in cities less than 15 miles away from my Mother-in-law, my sisters, my sister-in-laws and most of our cousins.
We have noticed that is inspires us to be creative after watching nature’s beautiful slideshow. My son has been doing more creative writing on his own and he writes even more after he watches the day’s playback!
