How You Can Save Money On Clothes For Fashion-Conscious Teens

September 29, 2015 by Pam Maynard

There’s no doubt about it: kids are expensive. The money you save when your children grow out of baby formula and diapers is nothing compared to what you’ll spend once they become teenagers and want the trendiest name brands. Take a look at these four tips for saving money on clothes for teens who want to look good.

How You Can Save Money On Clothes For Fashion-Conscious Teens

#1 Set a Reasonable Budget (And Tell Your Teen About It)

It’s easy to have a conniption when your teenager points to a pair of jeans costing $100. While you probably have a dollar amount in mind that you can spend, make sure this is information that your teenager has. Tell him or her the total, and see what your child comes up with in terms of ways to spend it. If your fashion-conscious teenager wants to spend it all on one expensive item, you might agree to let them do so. Another option is to tell your child that you are willing to spend a certain dollar amount per item. For example, if you can spend $30 on that pair of jeans, brainstorm with your teen to figure out how he or she might come up with the rest.

#2 Go Vintage

Your teenager might surprise you by being open to buying some of his or her clothing at a thrift shop. There are some consignment shops that cater to teens almost exclusively. Plato’s Closet is one example. You can likely find acceptable items in that store or others like it for just a fraction of what they would cost if you were to buy new.

#3 Use Online Coupons

Before you spend money on any websites, search for online coupons and codes. Simply type the name of the store and “discount codes” into your browser. You may get lucky and find a code for exactly what you’re looking for. You can even find coupons for worldofwatches.com, which can save you money on brand name products. You can save money on clothes, accessories, shoes and more by using coupons.

#4 Remember That Accessories Make Outfit

Just as you might put on a necktie, a string of pearls or a pair of earrings to complete an outfit, your teen might enjoy wearing accessories to spice up his or her ensembles. Accessories to pick up when you see them on sale are handbags, shoes, hair accessories, jewelry or even snazzy socks.

Buying clothing for your teenager doesn’t have to break the bank. By incorporating some of these tips, you can save money and make your teen happy at the same time.
