4 BIG Lessons Children Learn from Box Tops #BTFE

I was still a student in school the first time Box Tops for Education was announced. I remember how much fun the entire program was at launch. We had quarterly pep rallies to get everyone excited to turn in their coupons. And we, as kids, loved being able to turn them in. Doing so was such a proud moment because it was our way of earning money for our school.

It was our way to earn money for our school,

as a child that is a big deal!

There is more to Box Tops for Education than just earning money. Getting your child involved teaches them valuable life lessons. Children who participate in the program are taught:

You can be small and do BIG things.

They [the children] are an important part of their community.

How to choose products that care about their community.

Every small effort made for a good cause is important!

My favorite lesson from Box Tops for Education is that even the smallest amount of effort (clipping a coupon and taping it to a piece of paper) is a step in the right direction. Children are seldom taught this lesson; it isn’t something they will learn in a book, it isn’t something you can lecture them on – it is only a lesson that can be taught by doing.

Box Tops for Education has contributed over

$525 million to participating schools

since the launch of the program in 1996.

$525 million dollars is a powerful number! It is an investment made to over 80,000 k-8 schools for the future of America. What I find even more powerful about this number is that thousands of children and families did this! Although General Mills®, through Box Tops, puts forth the donation, the effort is made by families/communities. It is up to us to meet them half way.

There are so many items that contain the Box Tops Official Coupons that anyone has the opportunity to buy the products they already love, clip the Box Tops, and help a school in their community! Box Tops can be found on cereal, baking, bakeware, frozen foods, frozen vegetables, produce, snacks, juices, refrigerated & dairy products, meals, sides, food storage products, school/office supplies, paper products, tablewear, AND even wastebags! Hundreds of products!

My youngest daughter and I got started with this year’s first sheet by picking out a few boxes of our favorite cereals from Walmart. Our Walmart carries dozens of General Mills® through Box Tops cereals; making them easy to find and select.

After we got home was asked our older children to help us find products we already have in our pantry that have a Box Tops Official Coupon on them. In one afternoon we have already met our goal of twenty Box Tops per week. I cannot believe how easy it was for us to meet our first weekly goal!

Box Tops has proven that little by little, coupon by coupon, powerful things can happen by participating in one of America’s largest school earnings loyalty programs! Schools can use their earnings to buy whatever they need.

What will your school invest $20,000 on next year?
