Akoya Pearls – The Most Popular Pearls for all types of Jewelry #Fashion

August 24, 2015 by Pam Maynard

White Akoya pearls are a marvel of pearl cultivation. The near-perfect sphere and brilliant luster is created in calm seas that have a mild temperature. The Akoya is an oyster, and it’s the smallest oyster in the world that produces pearls, and it consistently produces near-perfect gems. This is why they are so popular in all types of jewelry. You can get an idea of the beauty of these pearls at https://www.thepearlsource.com/White-Akoya-Pearl-Necklace 61 collection.html.

The Beginning

Akoya pearls are grown on Japanese pearl farms, and are the first pearls to be cultured starting in the early 1920s. They are famous because of the color and shape. Akoya pearls are the smallest types of pearls, which is why they are popular for first-time buyers of pearl jewelry. They resemble freshwater pearls, but they are rounder, larger, smoother and more lustrous than freshwater pearls. They look good on everyone from young teenagers to women celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.

Different Types of Jewelry

Akoya pearls are considered the classic pearl for jewelry. The single pearl strand is the most popular type of necklace and looks elegant no matter how long or short it is. For those who consider power-dressing part of their job description, the double strand is the necklace of choice. For those who want to look elegant whether they are in the garden or at a gourmet restaurant for lunch choose the aristocratic triple strand. There is also a wide selection of bracelets and earrings from which to choose. A simple pearl stud is always suitable, but Akoya pearls come in stylish designs wrapped in yellow or white gold and surrounded by tiny diamonds.

Akoya Pearls Colors

Even though white is the most popular color for pearl jewelry, there are subtle differences in color. Some are almost-pure white and some have an ivory tint. There are also pale rose overtones and black pearls. When the pearls are sorted before being made into jewelry, they are graded. The top grades are AA+ and AAA, but there is also Hanadama grade. This is only given to the top one percent of Akoya pearls and only to Akoya pearls.

Akoya pearls make a good gift for a birthday, anniversary, graduation or holiday. They are the perfect complement for a bride and there are special wedding sets available. It’s possible to have a valuable and elegant pearl necklace at an affordable price.
