Revamping My To Do Lists with Jamie’s To Do #AppReview

July 28, 2015 by Victoria

I am a list person.  I like to have everything all written out where I can see it easily.  Each day I have a daily list of tasks I need to accomplish, from there I have another for what needs to be done within the week, and another list for my upcoming monthly tasks.  What this looks like is ten pieces of paper all stacked together and lots of scribbles.

There are occasions where one of my preschoolers will attack my page lists and send everything into complete chaos. I don’t have a backup for when this happens.  The only thing I can do is piece it all back together and rewrite everything — again.

When I told Pam about my lists, she thought they were fantastic but encouraged me to upgrade. She sent me the link to Jamie’s To Do app for my iPad and ordered me to try it for one week. (One week without my paper lists? Ack! I have tried digital to-do lists in the past, but they have been more work than they are worth.  If I can write it down faster than I can add it in, I’m going to write it instead.)

Jamie's To Do List App for Organizing Your Home and Work

Hesitantly, I installed Jamie’s To Do. To my surprise, there was no initial setup required.  The moment you open the app you can get started setting up your list or watch a quick tutorial. I chose to walk through the tutorial several times to be sure I understood the functions thoroughly before I beginning.

Just start up to app, tap the ‘Add New’ button, and your already on your way! The app does have more complex features, they are tucked away in the ‘Extras’ page. In ‘List Options’ you can email the lists to family and friends, you can see your completed to do’s in the ‘Done List’, and any other additional options we add over time!

Just like a multi-subject spiral notebook, there are easy to use tabs to the right of the list.  This allows you to navigate easily from each list you have.  I chose to create one list for the blog, another for home, and one more for my husband’s tasks.  If at any time I want to change the title or I see no further need for one of my lists, I can easily rename them to suit my needs.  For example: this month my husband is still acting as my assistant, but next month he may not be available as often, thus I may not have a continued need for his list. Jamie’s To Do permits my frequent changes and will allow me to rename his current list to utilize it for something else.

Another great feature of Jamie’s To Do app are Reminders. Reminders are great.  (I always need reminding.) Jamie’s To Do app appears on the main screen my iPad allowing me to see the reminder notifications easily.

The ‘Reminders’ section is also designed to be simple and for repeating tasks like paying a credit card bill. Tap ‘Add New’, select the time and the frequency the reminder will go off (daily, weekly, monthly) and the app automatically color codes and reorders the reminders list based off when the due date is! When the reminder goes off, the app sends out a notification on your iPhone or iPad, and when completed, resets itself for the following day/week/or month.

After using Jamie’s To Do,  I like that the app has allowed me to combine all of my lists into one place.  I no longer need to carry ten pages of paper around with me, instead, I carry our iPad and a scribbler sheet only.

Jamie's To Do App

I believe the simplicity of Jamie’s To Do is why I like it.  The app doesn’t require anything more of me than writing down a list on paper.  Actually, the app may require less of me because my children don’t have the satisfaction of tearing and coloring my to-do list pages.

I recommend Jame’s To Do to all of my list making friends and I’m not alone. Since its official launch in May of 2014, Jamie’s To Do has been Oprah Magazine as a helpful way to organize your life and; Fast Company as a “Tech Tool Productivity Experts Can’t Live Without.
