Going On A Trip Soon? Six Tips To Stay #Healthy While Traveling

July 26, 2015 by Pam Maynard

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet can be difficult when traveling to a new location. Being on the go on a constant basis can make it challenging to enjoy home cooked meals or maintain your exercise routine. Although it can be difficult to remain healthy, there are a few tips to eating a clean diet and staying active.

6 Tips To Stay Healthy While Traveling (1)

1. Take the Stairs

It can be easy for blood clots to develop while sitting for several hours on a plane or standing in line for attractions while traveling. Opt for taking longer routes when walking or using the stairs to increase your blood flow and improve circulation. If you are prone to clots or have varicose veins, be sure to be extra diligent. You can get your varicose veins treated at the Ivein vein center to give you peace of mind.

2. Take a Multivitamin

While you’re on a trip or traveling for work, it can be difficult to receive your daily intake of nutrients and vitamins. Bring multivitamins that you can take each day to ensure that you stay energized and remain healthy.

3. Pack Hand Sanitizer

From handrails to bus seats, it can be easy to come in contact with a high volume of germs while you spend a great deal of time in public locations. To avoid getting sick or getting a virus, it’s important to use hand sanitizer every few hours and before consuming food.

4. Avoid Contact Lenses

Opt for wearing glasses instead of your contact lenses to prevent making your eyes more vulnerable to microbial invaders. This will also help to keep your eyes from becoming dried out and irritated while keeping them free of germs.

5. Stock Up on Snacks

You’ll likely get hungry while waiting for your flight to depart or when doing a bit of shopping in the city that you’re visiting. Stay energized without heading to a fast food restaurant by bringing along granola, beef jerky, trail mix, and fruit.

6. Sleep at Least Seven Hours Each Night

Getting seven to eight hours of shut-eye each night will make it easier to feel energized and alert the next day as you travel or explore. You can also break your day up with an afternoon nap to allow your body to relax and avoid stress.

When you’re planning to head out of town on a trip, it’s important to have a plan on how you’ll stay healthy until arriving back home. By having a healthy meal plan and making it a point to exercise, you’ll allow your body to thrive for a memorable trip.
