Visiting with a Doctor on Demand #AppReview #VideoVisit

September 16, 2015 by Victoria

Disclosure.New.3

During my trip to L.A. in June I found myself sitting at a dining table feeling terrible; a whole other level of terrible. After appetizers and a few bites of my meal, I excused myself. I used all the effort I had in me to message my husband and tell him that I wasn’t feeling well.  I requested he call one of my travel friends to check on me if he didn’t hear back from me within the hour.

I made it back to my room successfully, hopped into the shower, and laid in my bed on video chat with my family.  Within two hours I was feeling fine and resumed working.  I attributed the matter to lack of sleep and continued onward with the remainder of my trip.

Almost a month later, I found myself at the dining table in my own home with the same symptoms.  I excused myself and laid on the couch with ice packs and cooling pillows for an hour. But at this point I was starting to worry that I wasn’t dealing with an isolated incident.

What is this?

Doctor-On-Demand-1

When I learned about Doctor on Demand I thought it might be a great time to bring up my current health concerns.  Doctor on Demand is an app that connects you to a video conference with real doctors.  The app can be used on almost any portable device platform AND Google Chrome.

The Doctors at Doctor on Demand can help you answer common medical issues, illness, psychology, and even provides lactation consultant services.   Some of the reasons patients call Doctor on Demand relate to: cold/flu, sinus infection, allergies, skin issues / rash, bug bite, pink eye, UTI / yeast infection.

As you can see from the video above, Doctor on Demand can provide you with treatment and care for many of the most common illnesses that are seen in emergency rooms across the country.  In some cases, a prescription can be provided for you and sent directly to your pharmacy.

Doctor On Demand is a healthcare service that provides Video Visits with Board Certified Physicians, Psychologists, and Lactation Consultants via smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. Doctor On Demand delivers services through employers, health systems, health plans, and directly to consumers. Patients simply download the Doctor On Demand app or visit www.doctorondemand.com, provide a list of their symptoms, and are instantly connected for a Video Visit. Consumers rate Doctor On Demand as the best telemedicine provider. The company has more 5 star App Store reviews than every other telemedicine app combined. 87% of patients love Doctor On Demand so much they have recommended it to their family and friends. Entrepreneurs Dr. Phil McGraw, Jay McGraw and Adam Jackson founded the company in 2012 to provide fast, easy, and cost-effective access to high quality medical and behavioral health care. Doctor On Demand is based in San Francisco. To learn more, please visit www.doctorondemand.com.

Doctor on Demand

I downloaded the free app and create an account within minutes.  During setup I was asked about where my pharmacy is, age, birthday, sex.

Before my first on-demand appointment I was asked questions relating to my visit, and to specify (check off) symptoms I was experiencing. I found this process very quick and easy to complete. Within minutes I was speaking with a real live doctor!  My doctor was friendly and refrained from startling me as much as possible. He cautioned me to stop overlooking my symptoms and encouraged me to visit an ER, or someone local to me, for blood work.
