What IS the Cool Collar?
The Cool Collar is just that- a collar/necklace you wear that keeps you cool on sweltering hot days. After placing your Nano-Ice Cool Collar in the freezer for 2 hours, you don the wearable around your neck and instantly feel better. Depending on weather conditions, it stays cold for 2.5- 3 hours, several times longer than frozen water.
How does the Cool Collar Work?
The Cool Collar’s effect is long-lasting, unlike that of a freezer pack or bag of ice. The liquid frozen inside the spheres that make up the Cool Collar was specially developed as an efficient refrigeration technology. The way the ice crystals interlock with each other is more efficient than frozen water, packing more thermal energy into a small space. The Cool Collar stays cold for 2.5- 3 hours. As the body part that most regulates body temperature, the neck is the ideal spot to cool down for optimal comfort.
Social Good:
Nano-Ice will be providing jobs locally to people in need. We are partnering with the Homeless Veteran’s Association in South Boston as well as Goodwill to ensure our product is crafted locally by those who may otherwise find themselves without enough employment options to make ends meet. In addition, we have had aid workers treating Ebola in Sierra Leone test the Cool Collar with positive results, so for every ten Cool Collars we sell, we will donate one to aid workers abroad.
About the Inventor: Sam White:
Sam White has dedicated his career to clean technology development. He co-founded a highly successful start-up called Promethean Power Systems, co-founded the largest cleantech incubator in the country, Greentown Labs, and is now launching Nano-Ice.
White says, “No matter what project I’m part of in the future, just like in the past, it is important that there is a strong social impact component to it”. So for Nano-Ice, manufacturing the cool collars will be done locally in Boston by people in need. In this regard, he’s been offering job opportunities for the unemployed through homeless veterans’ associations and Goodwill. Also, the very first people to test the benefits of these cooling necklaces are medical professionals treating Ebola patients in the extreme heat of Liberia and Sierra Leone
