Cookie Secrets

Diet Tips; Baking The Perfect Cookie

 Guest post by Ricky

This is an odd sort of diet tip, since cookies aren’t exactly known for their health benefits, but I believe that any good diet should have some treats and there is no greater treat than home made cookies.

That said, cookies are tricky, if they go right they can taste and look oh so good, but they are also easy to get wrong. Now if you’re going to consume the calories you want it to be worth it right?

Buy Only The Best

Sometimes there really isn’t all that much difference between expensive foods and the cheap alternatives, but when baking this really isn’t the case. For the best cookies it is worth the investment in those ingredients that are a little bit special.

Buy Real Butter

If you are conscious of your calories it is tempting to make your cookies that bit healthier, but using margarine can spoil them if you’re not careful. Instead, just make a small batch but use the right ingredients to ensure your cookies taste just right.

Get The Right Sugar

Sugar is perhaps the most important part and the easiest to get wrong. Use white sugar to make crispy, crunchy cookies and use brown sugar if you want your cookies to have that soft and chewy texture.

Over Mixing

Ok, so you’ve got all of the right ingredients, now to make some dough. Mixing the dough of course is critical, but try not to overdo it. If you mix the dough too much and for too long you can dry it out, this will mean that your cookies are dry and a little too hard once they are baked.

Put It In The Fridge

If you find that your cookies tend to go flat in the oven, here’s a tip; Once your dough is mixed, pop it in the fridge for a few hours. This will cool the dough and make it more pliable and easier to shape.

Get The Right Flour

Just a final tip; flour isn’t all created equal and different types of flour react in different ways. Just ensure that you use the right flour for the recipe, even if that means taking a trip out to buy some.

Summary

There’s no big secret to making perfectly delicious cookies, the key is just in doing everything right; take your time and follow the tips above and you’ll certainly notice the difference on your next cheat day.
