My youngest daughter LOVES surprise egg reveal and Shopkins surprise basket videos on YouTube. Her love for these clips inspired me to do more with her Easter bunny this year.
When I was a child I remember being thrilled to receive a big chocolate bunny in my basket, but disappointed because it was hollow. I never understood why they were empty; as a child this left me baffled. Since I have struggled with this problem all my life (ha!), I decided to take Baby Girl’s love of surprises and combine it with my disgust with those hallow bunnies…. hollow bunny NO MORE!
I cannot believe how easy this was to do AND how much my kids loved it! All of my kids, from the oldest to the youngest (okay, so the five month old didn’t pay much attention), thought our surprise bunny was a great idea. They loved tackling all of the goodies inside and enjoying the chocolate bunny afterwards. I think this would make a fantastic Easter present for ANYONE! Just stuff the bunny with what they like best. Need suggestions? My kids were happy to tell me what they would want in their bunny:
14 yr old boy: Sour everything! War Heads & Sour Skittles
13 yr old girl: War Heads, Jolly Ranchers, and Jelly Bellies
10 yr old girl: M&Ms, Goobers, Yogurt Covered Raisins, Chocolate Eggs (no, she doesn’t want much)
4 yr old boy: Skittles and chocolate eggs
2 yr old girl: not picky – anything
My ideas for adults would be to fill the inside with nuts, Jordan almonds, or trail mix.
Are you ready to make your own Chocolate Easter Bunny Surprise?
You will need:
- Hollow Chocolate Bunny
- Bags of Candy or Treats
- Pointed Knife
- Lighter/Matches/or other Heat
Carefully remove your bunny from the package, especially if you plan on returning your bunny to the box once it is filled.
Heat tip of your knife and make hole outline. Reheat knife again and go back over your hole lines. Repeat until the piece of bunny is removed easily.
Fill your bunny with candy and treats.
Return removed piece of bunny to the bottom. Use heat source to melt the bunny and the removed piece back to together. Place bunny in the refrigerator for five minutes to set.
After the chocolate is again hardened on the bottom, return your bunny to its box!
*Note: Try not to handle your bunny too much; your fingers can cause it to melt. Try keeping a piece of wax paper between your fingers and the bunny to prevent melting/smudging.
What will you fill your bunny with?
