The first time I saw a Ciao! Baby portable high chair on Pinterest I was instantly in love. When we left for a four month spring-summer camping adventure in 2013, I wasn’t leaving home without one! Baby Girl was a few months old and I knew my Ciao! Baby was going to be a camping necessity…. and I was right! (Photos from this trip are still in storage or I would include them in this review)
The ciao! baby® portable high chair is an innovative, practical solution for families on the go! travel, picnics, camping, vacations, tailgating, and grandma’s house!
Free standing chair | Requires no assembly | Light weight and flexible design | Easily unfolds, locks into place, and folds back up in seconds | Durable material with a clear vinyl tray cover that easily wipes clean | Built-in cup holder | Comfortable lap belt securely holds child
This isn’t just a dining chair! We used our chair at the park, on the beach, at our campsite, during concert-style events. If we were taking our camp chairs, we were also bringing along her’s! And that’s what it really comes down to. The Ciao! Baby Portable High Chair should be used in any situation that you would also be taking a camp chair for yourself or another family member. Whenever we would sit around a campfire together, she was included in the same manner as everyone else and was thrilled about it!
But I don’t camp!
Oh no! You should! But if you don’t camp, you will still love the Ciao! Baby. When we aren’t on the road, we use our high chair in the backyard, at sporting events, when dining in a home away from home, birthday parties, and the park. We keep our highchair under the middle row seat of our SUV, next to our umbrella stroller, because it is as slender as the small stroller; and is out of the way. This means we always have our Ciao! Baby on hand because you never know when you might need it. We have even used it at restaurants that didn’t offer a proper seat for her. Yes, that can happen… it isn’t supposed to, but it has!
Washing and Care:
The Ciao! Baby high chair does wipe clean with a damp cloth… however…..
During Baby Girl’s first birthday party she made quite the mess out of her chair. While I was bathing her, my husband took the chair into the garage. I didn’t realize he had done this until I found the chair, days later, still covered in cake! Jokingly, my husband used the pressure washer on the lowest pressure setting to clean her chair. I just knew he was going to ruin it and was really upset with him. I ended up having to thank him for it instead because it was completely clean, and the chair didn’t contain any mold or mildew from the extended exposure to the birthday cake! I was shocked! This is just another great reason why I love this chair! No matter what abuse we put it through (and believe me, it was abused) it lasted and still looked amazing!
Baby Girl’s Ciao! Baby highchair survived two flash floods that left our tent floating, countless days left open in the sun at our campsite, afternoon park days, more than five birthday parties (not all her own, but each containing cake), nightly dinners, and my husband’s pressure washer! We never experienced any discoloration, mold, mildew, or separation between the plastic “tray” and the chair. It is an AMAZINGLY well-made product!
Time for an Upgrade!
We received a new Florida Gator’s Ciao! Baby portable high chair to review! Of course, I love it! I’m a born and raised Floridian and UF fan. I love the blue and the gator logo. They look fantastic and the chair really does have the colors and look that any tailgating UF fan would want. For those who prefer another college team, Ciao! Baby offers 47 college teams to choose from on their Collegiate line. There is a slight price increase if you choose a collage chair, but I think the color boost is really worth it PLUS you can add “football games” to your list of where to take your Ciao! Baby.
New and improved! I immediately noticed that the tray is much tighter and flatter than on our first edition chair. I haven’t formally confirmed this adjustment, but it is an observation of my own (that I’m happy to see).
Notes:
The Ciao! Baby portable high chair is great for most children but we have noticed one downfall. (Sigh, I hate that there is a downfall at all because we truly love them!) Tall toddlers can have a difficult time getting in and out of the chair. I’m not sure what they can do to correct this. We stopped using our chair for our (now preschool) son when he was two because he was too tall to get out of the chair comfortably. Please know that Ciao! Baby recommends use of their chair “up to” three years old. That means, some toddlers can use it until they are three, and some cannot. Baby Girl is almost three now and can still be removed from her chair easily.
Fun in the Sun!
Ciao! Baby has announced the new release of a great new clip-on umbrella for their portable high chairs! I think this is a genius idea because, like I said before, we have exposed our chair to direct sunlight and that means our baby too. While sun hats and lotion protection are our friends, the umbrella will help you go that extra mile to protect your child and keep him/her cool. The new clip on umbrella features:
- UV lined fabric for SPF protection
- Adjustable with tilt joint/push button pivot
- Universal clamp for use on strollers as well
- Open size: 19″ x 19″ x 31″
Recommendations:
Oh yes! Without a doubt, every family needs a Ciao! Baby portable high chair! If I could only purchase one high chair for my child, I would get this one over the rest, hands down!
