Does Bead Weaving Reduce Stress?

April 22, 2012 by Pam Maynard

Bead Weaving, a Great Stress Reliever

Guest post from BeadsnBarn.com

Can bead weaving be used as a stress reliever? People have used beads for thousands of years as a means to focus our attention while praying. Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, and many other religious groups have used different types of beads as a symbol of their faith and devotion.

If you actually take a minute to sit back and think about bead weaving from a different aspect, every single off-loom stitch that you accomplish has its own rhythm just like mediation and chants do. Set yourself down at a table, breathe in before stitching, stitch your bead, and then release your air. Not only does bead weaving help you focus your attention on creating something beautiful for hours on end, but it gives you time to set aside all of your problems and just relax.

Most people that take up bead working take up this craft as a means to help them get away from the world. When you can submerge yourself deeply into a project, and let the troubles in your life fade away, the activity that you are submerging yourself into becomes your stress reliever.

People that bead weave are not overexerting themselves, or having to think about anything else, aside from creating a stunning piece of art that they will have to show off later. Many avid beaders will agree that beading is the one thing that they can do to help themselves calm down after a long and tiresome day of work.

In a way, bead weaving is a form of meditation for many people. You can focus all of your attention directly to the project that you are performing and let all of the problems that you may be facing in your life drift away. The advantages of bead weaving are endless. Not only will you be able to create stunning pieces of art, but you will be able to block out negative energies while doing it.
