5 Foods That are Secretly Making You Gain Weight

January 22, 2015 by Pam Maynard

Weight loss is on everyone’s agenda, especially after the holidays when many of us tend to overeat. Store everywhere report increases of orders for phentermine diet pills and exercise equipment as warmer weather approaches in the spring because people want to drop pounds quickly.

Fruit Juices
Everyone knows that eating fruit is suggested by dietitians to get more nutrients in food plans. However, fruit juices are concentrated forms of sugar with one glass containing more calories than four oranges. If you’re not reading labels at the grocery store, you may buy juices that contain fructose syrup and actually lead to faster weight gain.

Granola Cereal
Switching to granola instead of other cereals seems like a great idea because it contains dried fruit, oats, and walnuts. While these ingredients add minerals and vitamins to meal plans, granola is higher in fat and sugar than other cereals. In addition, many dieters use this food as a snack by buying individually wrapped bars that contain more calories than bagged granola.

Raw Vegetables
Raw vegetables are a healthy snack to prevent consuming potato chips or soft drinks that have no nutritional value. The reason this food causes weight gain is because dieters love to dip raw carrot or celery sticks in fatty dips to improve the flavor. Using low calorie salad dressings and dips is acceptable, but it is also vital to measure a portion onto a plate. You always have to take into account what you add to your healthy foods.

Chicken
Chicken is a popular food while dieting because it is easy to find at any grocery store. Many dieters prepare baked chicken breast for meals without considering the portion size. Modern poultry farmers have bred chickens to provide an enormous amount of white meat because that is what most consumers want. Get in the habit of cutting chicken breasts in half before cooking to reduce calorie consumption.

Rice
Many dieters give up pasta and potatoes to switch to rice. Rice is high in fiber, protein, and minerals, but most people serve extremely large portions or slather it with high sauces to make it tasty. Alternatively, for convenience, dieters might buy the flavored varieties that cook faster but contain high fat sauces.

Read Package Labels
Dieters often don’t know a lot about nutrition going into a weight loss plan, which can lead to buying foods that cause weight gain instead of loss. Before attempting weight loss, take time to learn how to read labels when grocery shopping, and how to prepare meals without adding unneeded calories.
