Our review of the Geocache explorer kit:

Before we review this fun explored kit, you need to know what Geocaching is! Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. Geocaching.com is the headquarters for the activity. Read more about Geocaching on my blog HERE.

The Explorer kit helps first timers get started.  The book in the kit is fun and easy to read.  It is comic book style so even non-readers will check it out.  I love the fun way they write the book.  It covers everything from finding Geocaches to hiding your own Geocache.  It explains how to download the app for iPhone, Android or Windows phone.  Then it explains how to use the app.  This would have been helpful for us before we started.  We learned by trial and error.  It goes over the best things to put in the cache- called swag.  No food, just fun trinkets.  My son always puts LEGO figures in the cache.  It’s his signature!  I has a few pages about advanced geocaching and trackables too.  I can’t wait to find our first trackable!

The kit also come with a cool wood pencil, patch, a micro cache, a nano cache and a cool rock cache.  These are all so great, I’m not sure we want to hide them.

The drawstring backpack is the perfect bag to bring along to carry your water, pen, and swag.  Just remember, those micro and nano caches aren’t big enough for swag, but always be sure to leave your username and date.  But, you’re not done.  When you finish with a cache, log into the website or the app and record your finding.  Tell us how hard it was to find, if anything was missing, etc.  DO NOT give away the location of the cache!

Geomate Small Log Devious Cache Container

These unique hand crafted, natural wood (downed timbers) make hiding a Micro cache easy. Sitting on the ground this simple piece of wood blends right into the environment. Pick it up and you will discover that the side of this log rotates open to reveal a micro container and log scroll. Actual size of the container varies depending on each piece of wood. Official Geocache is branded on bottom of log.   geocache collage mdr

We are going to hide this great log cache on our property.  Since we own Camp Wags Pet Resort, we are going to have the items stick to a pet theme.  We had a fun name picked out, but of course we can’t remember what it is now.  It had something to do with bark, dog, or camping.  Maybe YOU can help us figure out a good name for our cache.

On Geochacheing.com you will find all the information you need to hide your own cache.

Our whole family is so excited about our new Geocache goodies.  We can’t wait to get out there, even in the snow, to find more caches.  Check out the Geocache Action and Discovery kit on our Christmas Gift Guide along with lots of other great gift ideas for the whole family.
