I just downloaded an adorable app for my girls today and couldn’t wait to tell you about their special holiday offer! Fairy Tales is a collection of 8 classical fairy tales in new 3D, interactive, pop-up look. The Fairy Tales app comes with the Princess and the Pea pre loaded into the app, however, they are offering a $7 holiday gift for users who download the app BEFORE Monday, December 29th! Seven dollars provides you with an additional 7000 points that can be redeemed to unlock more books! We selected to receive Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, AND Goldilocks and the Three Bears with our points! (I can’t believe we were able to get all three and still have points left over!)
As soon as I found out about this great offer, I downloaded the app and redeemed our gift for points. My youngest daughter and I selected all three of the books she wanted to add and we waited. Once the three books were loaded, we got started playing…. um… I mean…. reading.
My little girl really loved the interactive pop-up that appears once every few pages. She frequently skipped through Goldilocks just to get to the next pop-up segment. I can’t say that I blame her, the pop-ups are cute. Each one contains clickable items or characters that move and/or have sound effects/speak. While not everything is clickable, much of the scene shown is – the coo-coo clock, bowls of porridge, table, bed, cabinet – all of these make noise or have an animation. The three bears and Goldilocks speak in each scene they appear. My favorite pop-up on the Goldilocks and the Three Bears book is the very first one because it was very animated and even contained educational teaching moments. Educational moments happen when Goldilocks asks if the reader knows what the different types of trees in the forest are. When the reader clicks on each different tree, it tells you what they are and gives fun facts about how you can identify them.
The storybook pages have a antique appearance to make the reader feel like they are reading an old book. The layout of the text and illustrations reminded me of the fairy tale books I had when I was little. This app was the closest I have felt to reading a paper book on a tablet before. I really enjoyed the effort they put forth in the books’ appearance.
In one afternoon, three of my children have spent a significant amount time with the Fairy Tales app reading their books and interacting with the stories. Each child has their favorite. My preschooler (boy, age four), enjoyed completing the tasks with the Three Little Pigs. Baby Girl loved Goldilocks and the Three Bears because of the bears and the little girl. My middle daughter, age nine, is hard to pull away from Cinderella because she is amazed that she can read it by herself.
Additional features include: being able to select the portion of the story you wish to begin at if you are resuming from a previous session, having the app read the story aloud to the user, and the user reading the stories by themselves.
The main page is interactive and offers a bonus game. The bonus game is a constellation puzzle where the user rotates the constellation until they see the image from their downloaded stories. Each storybook has several puzzles/levels to play.
The app Fairy Tales was released on the Apple App Store today but is also available on the Google Play and Amazon App stores. Don’t miss out on their special holiday offer because this is one fun and educational app your little one will adore!
