Ways To Bring Your Family Closer Then Ever

November 16, 2014 by Pam Maynard

Between the time you spend at work, your spouse’s work schedule and the schedules of your kids, it’s often hard to find time to sit down and talk. Instead of sharing a meal around the table, you drive to the nearest fast food restaurant and let each family member eat when they get home, and you use your weekends to catch up on what you missed out on throughout the week. As long as you have a few hours, you can bring your family together and catch up in a fun way.

Start a Family Project

Now is the perfect time to start a new family project. Drag those old boxes of photographs out of the closet to create a scrapbook together, or use computer software to edit old home movies onto a DVD. If your kids are a little more active or handy, consider renovating a feature of your home together. You can paint and lay new flooring in a room, organize the garage or build a swing set outside.

Go to Counselling

According to Dalton Associates, which offers family counselling in Mississauga, there are some issues that you cannot cope with on your own. Some of those issues include a teenager who feels depressed, a younger child diagnosed with ADHD or schizophrenia and other mental diseases that present at a young age. Your kids can even pick up on other issues that arise between you and your spouse, including infidelity and financial problems. The fights that you have with your partner can cause the kids to act out and experiment with drugs or shoplift. Attending counselling sessions lets you cope to terms with the problems plaguing your home together as a family.

Plan a Family Vacation

If you’re like most parents, you probably think about what your kids want but pick a vacation destination based on what you need. This year, sit the kids down and make a list of what they want to do on your next trip, and find a destination that meets all your needs. You might head to a local amusement park that offers zip lining, roller coasters, a nearby spa and restaurants with family-friendly dishes on the menu, or you might decide to spend the week camping in a state or national park.

Enjoy Family Day

Not everyone has the time or money to spend a few days away from home, but you can still bond with your kids and bring your family closer together with a family day. Select one day out of the week or one day out of the month for your big day. Take turns between you, your spouse and your kids picking out what each person wants to do on their day.

Bonding is an essential part of healthy development, but far too many families don’t take the time to bond with each other. Bringing your family closer together is as easy as spending a day together, eating attending therapy, planning an upcoming trip or doing a family project.
