This past weekend our family was able to escape to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mesquite, Nevada. Why Mesquite? The drive from St. George, Utah to Mesquite is relatively short and has some of the best views of the Virgin River Gorge along the way. Interstate 15 so so stunning that you forget you are on an Interstate highway – they even offer you several locations to pull-off and enjoy the view!
We arrived at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mesquite on Friday afternoon. My family was beyond pleased to view our room. It offered a living space with dining table and a complete living room with pull-out couch. Centered between the two was a soaking jetted tub that my littlest ones referred to as “our own pool”.
The kids immediately hit the couch and wanted to watch TV. It was really nice to have a living room and dining space to ourselves for two days. The kids had plenty of room to turn on their favorite music channels and dance around or sprawl out on the floor with color books and toys.
My husband and I were most pleased to have a complete bedroom to ourselves, separate and away from the rest of the living space. I spent much time inside the room working. It was nice to be able to shut the door for a little quiet time to write.
The king bed allowed my husband and I to have plenty of space when our toddler and preschooler crashed our sleep each night. Once they were sound asleep, I could move them to one side and still enjoy a little cuddle time with my hubby. Another bonus, I could actually be completely on the bed – it was so nice I refused to leave its comfort until five minutes before checkout on Sunday (smile).
Besides having our own room, my husband really enjoyed the patio in the evenings. I would have enjoyed it more if outdoor lighting was offered – it wasn’t, so I didn’t stay for long (I don’t do darkness). My favorite feature was the large windows and floor to ceiling drapery. I love big windows that allow in the maximum amount of sunlight. Each morning the drapes were pushed to the side so I could absorb as much sunlight as possible.
The tub! Oh my goodness – I have very mixed emotions about “our own pool” in the room. First, the design of the room with a tub in the center and without a door didn’t offer me, as a mom, anything. The curse of being a mommy means: even if I attempted to enjoy the tub with a swimsuit on, I would never be left alone long enough to enjoy it! Any mom who has tried to soak in a tub with an unlocked door and preschoolers knows exactly what I am talking about. If mommy is in the tub and little ones can reach her – it is not a relaxing soak. Thus, I never got in. I had planned on trying to sneak in during the wee hours of the morning while my bunch were asleep, but nearing the end of my pregnancy doesn’t allow me the energy to stay up that long. The kids, however, enjoyed it greatly and gave my husband several heart attacks in the process. The slick tile surround – made him extremely nervous. You could say the beautiful tub ended up not working out the best for us.
I enjoyed the bathroom (smile). Since I wasn’t able to enjoy the jetted tub like I had hoped, I did sneak away into the standard bathroom for a soak. It wasn’t as spectacular as the other tub would have been but I wasn’t attacked by a two and four year-old so it was still great.
Breakfast:
Breakfast was great and the food was delicious. On Saturday morning everything was stocked right up until the time breakfast closed, however, the Sunday staff didn’t do the same. The Sunday breakfast ran out of milk and utensils almost forty-five minutes before breakfast ended and no one returned from the kitchen area to restock them. We were thankful that we were already all-set, but there were other guests who weren’t able to enjoy their meal in the manner it was intended.
Breakfast included a mix of hot and cold options: Sausage patty, biscuits, gravy, eggs, warm cinnamon rolls, Light & Fit yogurt, Greek yogurt, fresh fruits, cereal, bagels, toast, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal (with fruit flavors), pancakes, juice, and hot beverages.
My kids loved the pancake maker but only used it one morning. They were more thrilled with the cinnamon rolls, cereal, yogurt, and their favorite oatmeal. Yes – each of my bigger bunch ate this, and more, each morning for breakfast. (It always amazes me how much they eat during a free hotel breakfast. I can take them out for breakfast and they won’t eat their plate. Give them a free breakfast and they each eat three!)
A Meeting Place:
The Holiday Inn & Suites Mesquite has two conference rooms available. Both rooms are relatively the same, but my favorite was the Sunset Mesa Meeting Room because it offers a private patio. I believe the rooms would be perfect for a medium-sized event.

Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express Mesquite was very delightful. The weather and time constraints didn’t allow us to enjoy the pool but our room was a perfect sanctuary for our family for two days. Everyone slept beautifully, enjoyed breakfast and the added space we were provided.
Speaking of the weather – the area was hit fairly hard by rain and lightening. We barely heard any of it from inside of our room and found the hotel to be a great location to take refuge from poor weather conditions.
You will want to know that there are beautiful views of the mountains outside, the grounds and rooms are well maintained and clean. The entire feel of the hotel was comfort – inside of the rooms and out! You are offered opportunities to relax in every area – lobby, breakfast hall, pool, and even the business center!
