The Top 10 Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin

September 21, 2014 by Pam Maynard

The beauty of your skin is one of the first things people may notice about you. Your skin can reflect your age, your health and other factors. It can impact how others perceive you, and it can also impact your own body image and level of self-esteem. You understandably want to take great care of your skin, and there are several tips that you can follow to ensure that your skin radiates the health and beauty that you want to project to others. Taking care of your skin makes you feel beautiful, inside and out.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Water is essential to great skin tone and overall health. When your body is dehydrated, your cells essentially become smaller, and this means that your wrinkles and fine lines may become more pronounced. Furthermore, water helps to rid the body of excess waste, and drinking more water may reduce problems like skin blemishes and pimples.

2. Wear Sunscreen

One of the most significant causes of skin damage, such as wrinkles and sun spots, is exposure to the sun. Any time you step outside or even when you are indoors sitting next to a window, UV rays can impact your skin with detrimental results. It is advisable that people of all ages wear at least a sunscreen product with SPF 30 or higher every day.
3. Take a Multi-Vitamin
The health of your skin is indeed a reflection of your overall health and well-being. You will not look healthy on the exterior if your body is not healthy inside. There are several types of vitamins that will affect your skin’s health, and you want to ensure that you receive all of the nutrients that your body needs each day. Because of this, it is best to take a multi-vitamin on a daily basis. Most diets do lack some nutrients from time to time, and a multi-vitamin will ensure that your skin is properly nourished from the inside.

4. Follow a Healthy Diet

While a vitamin can be beneficial to your skin, the fact is that there are nutrients in foods that your body will not receive from a multi-vitamin. For example, the essential fatty acids in foods like salmon, tuna and almonds are effective at combating a wide range of skin problems. These problems include everything from general blotchiness to wrinkles and droopy skin.

5. Wash Your Face With a Gentle Cleanser
Cleaning your face every day with a mild cleanser can reduce problems like excessive oil, white heads, black heads and other issues. These are problems that can give your skin an undesirable appearance and that can make you look unhealthy to others. There are several cleansing products to choose from when it comes to Glytone products, and these are developed for a wide range of skin types.

6. Use the Right Moisturizer for Your Skin Type
Likewise, there are moisturizers available for all skin types. Even oil skin may benefit from a moisturizer with an anti-aging formula that fights fine lines and wrinkles. Learn more about the moisturizing products available so that you can enjoy the benefits they provide to you.

7. Do Not Smoke
Smoking can cause issues related to premature aging, wrinkles, fine lines and even skin discoloration. Essentially, smoking can make you look years older than you are, and the effects may be permanent. If you want your skin to look great, avoid using any cigarette or tobacco products.

8. Reduce Your Stress Level
The effects of stress can impact your entire body, and this does include your skin. Stress can cause you to suffer from breakouts, to have oily skin, to develop scowl lines and more. Finding a healthy way to deal with stress, such as taking a yoga class or going on a job, can benefit your skin and your overall health.

9. Choose the Right Cosmetics
Some cosmetics are designed simply to cover up blemishes and to enhance your facial features. Others are designed to improve the health of your skin while also enhancing your beauty. For example, a foundation that contains SPF and anti-aging serum may be more beneficial for your skin than foundation that lacks these features. Finding the right make-up to wear can have a major impact on the health and beauty of your skin.

10. See a Dermatologist
Even when these steps are followed, some skin damage may occur over time. A dermatologist can inspect your skin periodically to determine if areas of sun damage are developing, and these can be treated quickly. A dermatologist may also provide you with skin care services like peels and exfoliation for improved skin health.

These are some of the best tips that you can start implementing if you want your skin to be healthy and to look fabulous. When followed regularly, you may be able to prevent skin issues related to sun damage, aging and other factors.
