Geocaching Family Fun!

Do you know what Geocaching is?  Visit LifeofJustin.net and find out!  We have found 7 caches and it is so much fun!  It is our new family hobby!

 

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. Geocaching.com is the headquarters for the activity.

We want to hide our own cache in the rock wall of our property.  But, we aren’t quite sure how to do it.  First we had to figure out what kind of Geocache we intend to hide:

Traditional Geocache

This is the original type of geocache and the most straightforward. These geocaches will be a container at the given coordinates. The size may vary, but at minimum, all of these geocaches will have a logbook. Larger containers may contain items for trade and trackables.

Mystery or Puzzle Caches

The “catch-all” of geocache types, this type may involve complicated puzzles that you will first need to solve to determine the correct coordinates. Mystery/Puzzle Caches often become the staging ground for new and unique geocaches that do not fit in another category.

Multi-Cache

These geocaches involve two or more locations, with the final location being a physical container with a logbook inside. There are many variations, but typically once you’re at the first stage, you will receive a clue to the whereabouts of the second stage. The second stage will have a clue for the third, and so on

 

So we figured out that we just want a traditional Geocache and we even know the name and theme that we want to use.  We have a medium-sized waterproof container that will be perfect.  We even found a hiding spot!  Stay tuned for the GPS coordinates.  We do have to get it approved by a Community volunteer before it will be live and ready to find. It’s so funny, I never thought I would like Geocaching so much.  My son has taken a few Geocaching after school programs and loved doing it with his friends.  We just recently started doing it as a family because another blogger buddy of mine (LaDonna at Mom Blog Society) was doing some with her hubby!  We bloggers tend to copy each other, LOL.   I love that we have to use TEAMWORK to solve the riddle-type clues.  That involves communication- something that every family needs work on!
