While many states are beginning to pull out their morning coats, Florida is still in full summer swing with the heat leaving many Floridians in temperatures of 105 degrees, or MORE! You can definitely say that August is living up to its reputation as the hottest month of the year down here as we are all scrambling to find ways to cool off.
Our family is enjoying the rest of our summer by camping and exploring new (to us) State Parks. All this fun has had its challenges though… hot hot hot weather! Since we can’t spend all of our time at the beach, my little guys have been spending a lot of time in their pool… camp-side!
Today’s fun included lunch and snacks from INSIDE the pool for a no-fuss cool lunch! It was prepared with a quickness to make sure Mommy didn’t get too hot slaving over the picnic table preparing it: flour tortillas, romaine lettuce, broccoli slaw, cheese, our favorite dressing, and black beans (see recipe below)! Roll it up and get in the pool for an easy way to stay cool – even during lunch!
For dessert, we cooled down even more with Wonka’s new Peel-a-Pop frozen treats. These frozen creations peel like a banana to reveal a vanilla center. The vanilla used is very flavorful and doesn’t taste artificial – I was pleasantly surprised.
My little ones tried the peel but didn’t finish them. I’m unsure if the heat was too much for the peels or if my children were too pleased with the center to make it to the outside. I, myself, tried the outside and it reminded me of gelatin. I would have preferred for it to be a little sweeter but I understand this may have changed the calorie count. (Speaking of calories, this amazing creation contains seventy calories!)
My kids had a ball trying this new creation from Wonka. They enjoyed peeling the pop and thought it was funny. As you can tell from baby girl in the pictures above, Wonka Peel-a-Pop frozen treats received her approval!
Need a quick meal that you can eat in the pool this August?
Wonka sent us a challenge to create a zany recipe using some goodies they provided: an apron to avoid the messes, and measuring cups to be sure we added everything correctly. Since our recipe was prepared during our weekend camping trip, the mess was okay and the overflow made the wraps even better! We hope you enjoy our roll-ups and find a zany way all on your own to eat them.
