Love your Furry Friend? Get AKC GoodDog Helpline and a BFF Box!

August 19, 2014 by Pam Maynard

review disclosure

I don’t know who was more excited to get our BFF box- me or my dogs!  The AKC BFF Box is a specialty box of quality toys, treats, and fun meant to strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners. A great way to celebrate companionship, the BFF Box is the perfect gift for dogs of all kinds. Products include the AKC Fleece Blanket, Ryan’s Barkery Treats, the Megalast rubber bone, Flapjack plush toy and Doggy Incredibubbles.

The personalized Fleece Blanket is perfect for snuggling with your furry kids and 2-legged kids!  I think the cats have taken ownership of Marley’s blanket.  He’s a Border Collie after all, he doesn’t need a blanket- that’s what the cats told me.

The most favorite toy among the dogs is Flap Jack!  Marley and our German Shepherd take turns squeaking it and throwing it up in the air.  It’s so funny to watch them.  I love that they haven’t torn it apart.  There isn’t any stuffing to pull out so it’s just a soft, flat, squeaky toy.  Normally, Marley digs out the squeaker, but he hasn’t even done that yet.  It’s like they have discovered that this squeaker toy is magical.

Of course, all the dogs LOVED the Ryan’s Barkery treats.  Even the pickiest eaters that came to visit us at Camp Wags liked them.

We have recently “semi-permanently adopted” a German Shepherd name Kirek. (She is the head pictured above with Flap jack.)  She came to us (to our Camp Wags Pet Resort) a few years ago and did nothing buy hide under the kitchen table for days on end.  Now, after we socialized her with other dogs, kids and many adults, she is a loyal love sponge and lives to play Frisbee.   She is Miss Manners when walking with her buddy Marley and my son and me.  The only thing that we haven’t been able to do with her is to teach her not to rush the door when we try to go outside.  The AKC GoodDog Helpline is just what we needed for some advice.

AKC’s GoodDog!SM Helpline is a live telephone service designed to help all dog owners get in tune with their pet’s behavior. Our trainers are here to help you understand what your dog’s actions signify as well as advise you on how to get the desired response.

I was able to use GDH last weekend to get some helpful tips about our newly adopted German Shepherd, Kirek. It was very convenient to use.  I normally hate calling anyone on the phone, but the Helpline is set up so you can leave a message and they will call you back.  I know no one likes to wait on hold for more than a few minutes.  If you have questions about puppies, the perfect fence, pee pads or just how to praise your dog, the Good Dog Helpline can help!

As far as how the tips have helped Kirek, the jury is still out.  We have always owned labs and Border Collies.  Neither are aggressive or have any “watch dog” personality.  It is going to take us all working together to get Kirek to approach the door without breaking it down.

According to the AKC Good-Dog!SM Helpline’s trainers, whose diverse “pedigrees” include experience in veterinary medicine, agility competition, therapy work and even biomechanical engineering, owners often report similar frustrations. Puppy housebreaking, puppy destructiveness and “coming when called” top the list of most common training hurdles.

“No matter how common or unique the problem, we are here to help you and your dog build the healthiest, happiest relationship possible,” said AKC Good-Dog!SM Helpline trainer Breanne Long. Customers will be advised of additional training and event opportunities by being notified of local AKC affiliated training clubs in their area.

For a one-time fee of $79.99, subscribers can speak to an available trainer with no restrictions for the life of their dog. The Helpline team is available via a toll toll-free number from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. (EST) Monday through Friday, and Noon to 6 P.M. (EST) on Saturdays.
