Do your kids run and hide when the words Spring and Cleaning come out of your mouth? I have a few ideas to make your kids have so much fun while cleaning that they will want to do it more often!
Make a game out of it: Kids love to turn everything into a game. Tell your oldest the plan and have him help make a game to get the younger ones involved. When my son was younger, he loved to help me mop. We pretended we had to mop up all the hot lava before it reached the living room. You can play hide and seek with the cleaning supplies. Or you can pick an animal and make that animal’s noises while you work. The sillier the better!
Put on some music: Kids can’t resist dancing! The faster the beat, the faster you have to clean.
Make lists with small prizes for achievements: Sometimes bribery works wonders! Once a whole room is done, let your child pick a small prize or sticker out of a “treasure chest.”
Don’t forget your car! Kids can shake out the floor mats, throw empty juice boxes and wrappers in the garbage and they can help clean the windows.
You can teach your teens these easy car repairs too. After all, if they are going to be driving, they need to know some basics.
