5 Surprising Kitchen Hacks That Will Save You Time and Money

March 28, 2014 by Pam Maynard

A kitchen often serves as a great place for family time and creativity but can also be chaotic if it lacks the space for organization. Here are five surprising and functional kitchen hacks that can save you time while keeping your wallet happy.Mason Jars for Under-the-Cabinet Storage
This simple kitchen hack provides easy accessibility to food items while being stylish. Drill screws through the Mason jar lids and into the bottom of the cabinet. Then fill the Mason jars with your most frequently used grains, flours or cereal. Attach each jar to a lid and you’ve got yourself a quick Do-It-Yourself hack that offers a stylish addition to your kitchen design while serving as functional, reusable storage.

5 Surprising Ktchen Hacks That Will Save You Time and Money

Garden Rake as Wine Glass Holder

If you’re looking for a way to gain more cabinet space, consider converting an old garden rake to wine glass storage. Simply secure the rake head to the wall with a few nails. Then slide the wine glasses into place. For additional space cleanup, the same type of rake head can be used for large utensil storage.

Rulers as Measuring Cup Storage

For quick use of measuring cups, nail a ruler to the inside of a cabinet, drawer or wall. Attach nails or hooks at equal widths apart on the ruler. For more customization, consider painting the ruler a bold color before installation. Use a marker to denote each hook and measuring cup for fast access. If you are unsure about the use of nails on cabinetry, consider consulting the remodeling experts at Greenwood Kitchen Design, or other quality kitchen design firm.
Grill Grates for Over-the-Door Organization of Pots and Pans

Pots and pans come in a variety of sizes and can be difficult to organize. To counter the clutter, attach a grill grate to the back of a door with a couple of over-the-door hooks. S-hooks can be used to attach the pots and pans to the grating. This simple alternative to cabinet storage not only frees space but also provides a great way to stay organized.

Install a Curtain Rod for Lid Organization

While grill grates are a great way to organize pots and pans, attaching a curtain rod to a wall provides an orderly way to store pot lids. The lids can be propped between the wall and the curtain rod. For more precise storage, measure the total length of the lids before installing the curtain rod.
