Clothing Assist: Five Resources for Finding Clothes for Your Son

February 14, 2014 by Pam Maynard

Kids are hard on clothes, and they can tear them apart in record time. Boys are notorious for being particularly hard on clothing. You want your kids to look great, but you also want to save some money in the process. Here are a few ways you can keep your kids’ closets full without breaking the bank on wardrobes.

Clothing Assist, Five Resources for Finding Clothes for Your Son

Hit the Clearance Racks

With a little planning, you can hit the clearance racks and save a fortune. The problem with clearance racks is that you’ll be buying shorts in November and the winter coats will go on sale in about March. The solution to this dilemma is to simply buy the next size up. Put the clothes in the closet where you’ll see them going into the next season to ensure that they’re used.

Watch for Sales

The stores are always running sales, and this is your chance to stock up on men’s tees and other supplies. Some stores offer special discounts for cardholders, and you can layer the savings to drop your overall bill even further. This is a great option if your kid loves name-brand clothes, but you cannot stand the price.

Support a Charity

The amazing thing about charity thrift stores is that people will donate brand new clothes. You can walk into these stores and find items that still have the tags on them. Gently used clothes still have plenty of life left in them, and you’ll pay a fraction of the price. An added bonus is that you’ll also be supporting a good cause like helping find and retain employment or providing emergency aide to those in need.

Let Your Fingers Do the Walking

If your kids wear consistent sizes, then you can also save by looking online. Find a special dress at online auction sites or hit the clearance section of your favorite store’s website. You can also find specialty retailers for those unique items that your kids are sure to love.

Visit Discount Stores

You may not be a fan of discount stores, but they are a good source for underwear, socks and basic T-shirts. These clothes typically tear up quickly anyway, so you don’t need to spend a small fortune on them.

Use these tips to find your kids the clothes they need without taking another mortgage out on the house. While you can spend your entire paycheck on one outfit, you won’t have to if you’re making smart shopping choices.
