Designing An Adaptable Playset For Your Children: Three Areas Of Customization To Cover

October 15, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Children love to play outside, even if you have to pry them away from their electronic gadgets in order to get them to leave the house.  When you build a playset in your backyard, you will have a magnet that will pull the children out of the house and get them to enjoy some fresh air.  The problem is that most of the time when you buy a swing set, your children outgrow it, and then you will have to tear down the swing set and replace it.  If plan ahead and get a customizable and adaptable playset, you will be able to make changes as you need them and keep the playset up-to-date for your children’s needs.

The Slide

One of the things that your children will use the most on the playset is the slide.  There is a thrill that comes with the freedom and speed of slipping down a slide, but slide designs should be changed over time.  When your children are young, you should go with a simple slope slide that will allow you to have access to the child as they go down.  This enables you to control the speed of the slide and make sure that your children are safe.  When the children get older, they can handle the slide on their own, and they will want some more excitement from the slide.  A covered slide or a slide with hills is more suitable for older children, and you need a playset that will allow you to make the changes to the structure on your own.  The slide should be an interchangeable part of the structure, and something that you can customize whenever you want to.

The Swings

Young children cannot swing on their own, and they need extra support to ensure safety when the swing is in motion.  Baby swings come up high on the torso and fits all the way around the legs of the child, much like a diaper.  While this is fine for a young child or a toddler, it is not something that your older children will want.  As your children age, you can get rid of the safety seat and replace it with a more normal swing.  You might even consider changing the swings to something else entirely when your children are old enough to understand the need to be safe on the swings.  Cyclone disks and tire swings are fun for children and adults to use, and you should have the flexibility to make those changes to your swing set as you see fit.

Space

Finally, you will want to have some extra space under the playset for some specialized items.  A young child can play in a sandbox underneath the playset for hours, while older children might want to have a table and chairs for a private place to eat or just to sit and talk.  The space should be large enough for you to transform it into whatever your kids might want.  By leaving some empty space in the design of your custom playset, you will allow your children to express their desires and let you know how they might wish to use the playset in the future.

When you create a custom playset, you want to be able to customize that playset as your children go older.  If you plan ahead and get a playset that has interchangeable parts, you will be able to adjust the playset to your changing needs and save money because you will not have to purchase an entire new playset.  This will maximize the life of your playset and allow your family to have the best experience possible.

I am Karen Hodges, and four years ago I purchased a custom Adventure World Gymset after I saw the example kids playsets they had at www.adventureworldgymsets.com.  When we bought the playset our children were toddlers, and they needed to have extra supervision when they used the swings and slide.  Now that they are four years older, they needed a little more autonomy, but the playset was not designed for them.  Fortunately, because of the interchangeable parts on the structure, my husband and I were able to adjust the swing set to the needs of the older children.  I highly recommend the services of Adventure World Gymsets for parents who want to have the best swing set on the market.
