Having to brave the cold every morning on the way to work definitely isn’t something that most of us look forward to. Having to rummage through our wardrobes to dig out our jumpers won’t be much fun either. However, there are ways to banish the winter blues this year ahead of all the festive cheer to come. One great way to inject some sparkle into your everyday routine is to banish your drab black and grey workwear and to opt for sass and brights instead. Here are just a few ideas to jazz up your office attire.
Knee high boots
Designer and high street collections have been awash with winter boots this year. Whether you prefer your footwear tall, short, heeled or flat, this season is perfect for boot lovers. Just like gorgeous underwear can put a skip in our step, so can a pair of daring knee high leather boots. It doesn’t matter if you are a skirt or trouser lover, a pair of killer boots can sass up any jumper. If you want to steer clear of black altogether, look for a pair green, burgundy or white boots – big winter colour trends!
Bright whites
One colour that has dominated fashion this year has been white. Elegant, classic and chic: this colour is a great alternative to safe, reliable black. If you are unsure about going to the light side, catwalk show images from the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam and Proenza Schouler should give you a little inspiration.
Glistening accessories
Gold jewellery was a noticeable trend on the autumn/winter catwalks. While some fashion houses such as Chanel and Aber Elbaz decided that bigger is definitely better for winter with oversized chains and large statement pieces, others such as Fendi decided to take a more minimal approach with sleek, monochrome timepieces. To see why classic Swiss watches have stood the test of time, head to sites such as www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk where you can find the best watches from around the world.
Green with envy
Green is officially the winter colour of choice for a variety of fashion houses, including Marc Jacobs and Cushnie et Ochs. Dark emerald green in particular has stood out amongst a sea of black leather and dark knitwear. To some of us, green may not seem like the most flattering of colours. However, the above designers (plus many more) have pulled off the look by implementing sleek tailoring, luxury fabrics and glamorous accessories. Think art deco meets 80’s style for your workwear ensembles. As a final flourish, apply a streak of red lipstick to add a little old-school drama to your office look.
Colourful folk
Folk inspired pieces by the likes of Suno and Rodarte were both colourful and comfortable at the autumn/winter New York Fashion Week this year. Beads, feathers and multicoloured tapestry inserts looked young and fresh but were kept sophisticated through tailoring and adult leather accessories.
