There’s something about pulling out the Christmas decorations that makes our house feel completely different. Of course, it also means boxes everywhere, decorations covering the table, and a growing list of things I still want to do before Christmas arrives.
This year, though, we added something completely different to our holiday decorating: the Step2 paintable nutcracker.

We settled on deep barn red, warm ivory, black, and antique gold, with a few additional colors for the smaller details.
And I have to say, seeing those colors on the actual Nutcracker, standing on our own porch, made such a difference!

I also asked ChatGPT to create a simple guide showing where each color should go. It was almost like having our own giant paint-by-number pattern!
Once we had a design we liked, I printed the image and color guide. Then we headed to the store for our primer, paint, brushes, and protective sealer.
Having that visual and color plan made the whole project feel much less overwhelming. Instead of guessing as we went along, we had a picture to work from and a plan to follow.
And now we were ready for the fun part—turning our plain white Nutcracker into a Christmas decoration that would feel right at home on our front porch!
Getting Ready to Paint Our Giant Nutcracker
Having our design figured out before heading to the store made shopping for supplies much simpler.

We already knew the look we were trying to create and had our color list in hand. From there, we could concentrate on getting what we needed to turn the plan into the finished Nutcracker.

For outdoor displays, there’s another practical feature I appreciate. The base can be filled with up to 30 pounds of sand to help keep the Nutcracker stable and secure.

More Than Another Christmas Decoration
Christmas gets busy fast. There are gifts to buy, meals to plan, events to attend, and what feels like a million little things competing for our attention.
