How Prioritizing Your Health Can Ease Your Anxiety

December 17, 2024 by Pam Maynard

Anyone who lives with anxiety knows all too well that it can take a huge toll on your daily life. Feeling anxious can prevent you from enjoying everyday pleasures, make you feel nervous about carrying out even tasks you’re familiar with, and impact everything from your career to your relationships. Unfortunately, when you experience anxiety, it can be hard to know how to break free from it, and where to even begin taking steps towards feeling better to ease your anxiety.

This is totally understandable, as when you’re caught in the depths of anxiousness, it can be hard to distinguish between the truth and what your anxiety is telling you. There’s no doubt that living with anxiety is incredibly difficult. Research shows that 300 million people worldwide live with anxiety disorders. So, if you’re currently struggling with your anxiety, you most certainly are not alone.

Understanding how to deal with anxiety and stop it controlling your life can be tough, but it is possible. Getting the right help plays a crucial role in dealing with anxiety. Switching your focus and making your health your priority can really help to ease your anxiety. Here are some of the ways you can make your health a priority and help reduce your anxiety levels.

Stay Active

Being anxious can be exhausting, and you may find that you feel permanently tired as you try to navigate life with anxiety. While exercising may be the last thing you feel like doing, it can actually be really beneficial.

Exercising can make a big difference to your anxiety levels. When exercising, endorphins and serotonin are released. These chemicals will help to boost your mood. As you move your body and exercise, your muscles tense and release, helping to relieve the tension that you’re holding in them.

Introducing exercise into your routine may help to ease your anxiety symptoms and you may find that you start to gradually feel better after you exercise. Finding an exercise that you enjoy can really help you to incorporate it more into your weekly routine. Some people find that exercise such as running or HIIT that makes them feel physically exerted helps to ease their anxiety symptoms.

For other people, exercise that promotes mindfulness and relaxation can be more effective at reducing their anxiety. This could include exercises such as tai chi, yoga, and pilates, which are able to reconnect the body and mind and help encourage a greater sense of calm.

Try Mindfulness

When your mind is whirring with a million thoughts, it can be hard to just function, let alone do anything else. Having your mind go off at tangents can be incredibly exhausting. So, finding a way to slow down your mind and prevent it from going into overdrive can be really helpful.

Mindfulness is a really effective way to bring more calm into your life and to stop anxious thoughts from taking over. Learning more about mindfulness and introducing it into your everyday life can help you to let your thoughts come and go enabling you to stay more present in the moment without getting caught up in them.

When you’re used to your mind being super active and your thoughts constantly running through your brain at a million miles an hour, trying to mindful can be really challenging. However, the more you keep practicing mindfulness, the easier it will become to use mindfulness techniques in your everyday life.

How Prioritizing Your Health Can Ease Your Anxiety

Seek Professional Help

Struggling to deal with anxiety on your own can have a significantly detrimental impact on your health. The physical effects of anxiety can be especially difficult to handle and can be extremely challenging to both physical health as well as mental well-being. You may find that you experience physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, a racing heart rate, and feelings of exhaustion.

Seeking professional help with your anxiety is an excellent way to prioritize your health. Scheduling a consultation with an anxiety therapist can help you to explore the root cause of your anxiety and gain a much better understanding of the reasons you feel anxious. During your therapy sessions, you can develop a clear idea of how to better cope with your anxiety.

Often, trying to avoid situations that trigger your anxiety can actually create further feelings of anxiety, which has a more significant impact on your mental and physical well-being. During counseling sessions, your therapist should be able to guide you toward breaking the cycle of anxiety, which can have a hugely positive effect on your health.
