For those of us with large televisions, great sound systems, and comfortable couches hosting the best darn movie night our friends have ever experienced is going to be a little easier, especially if catering services are used. However, if you don’t have the biggest television, the best sound system, or the most comfortable couch, don’t worry about it! The movie night probably isn’t happening at your house anyways. Hahaha! But seriously…here are a few great tips for making the most out of a movie night.
Invite Fun Friends – Above all else having a good mix of fun, film loving friends is the number one necessity for pulling off an epic movie night. No amount of good drinks, food, or hospitality can make up for bad guests, and if you invite one of those annoying people who comments on everything, you will regret it. Beware of the person that can’t resist telling you what is going to happen next. Take care in who you invite!
Pick Great Movies – Some of the best movie nights I’ve attended were multi-feature. Picking out a few great movies that match your guest’s style and taste is essential in hosting an awesome movie night. When sending out invitations ask guests to RSVP either their movie selection, genre selection, or both. Having multiple movies on hand and taking a vote the night of is another way you can insure your guests a bliss filled movie night. Whatever method you choose, just be sure you pick movies everyone will love. Cult classics are always winning movies for movie nights!
Cater Movie Themed Food – Are you hosting a zombie movie night? Serve spaghetti and meatball brains! Hosting a wedding themed movie? Serve a wedding cake! Offering your guests the opportunity to eat food or treats created after the theme of the movies you’re watching is a surefire way to make your movie night legendary! Include small props on your snack or food table that coincide with the movie. For instance, if you’re watching Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark you could have popcorn balls to pass out just before the rolling stone scene. Regardless of the type of food you serve, serve something that fits the theme for a winning evening! If you don’t want to do this yourself you can always order local catering.
Decorate the “Theatre” – The last step in throwing the best darn movie night possible is to decorate your movie room! Like having food and treats that fit the theme, having a few decorations around the movie viewing room that are in line with the theme of your movie is the best way to insure your guests feel “in the moment”.
Plan Activities for the Kids – If you are inviting over adults with children that won’t be interested in the movie you are watching, plan some activities for them in an adjacent room. They can be happily involved in some project or play time while the parents are free to enjoy the movie and the company of friends. Plan for pauses in the movie to occasionally check in on how they are getting along.
People love getting together and there’s no better way to bring people together than to watch a great movie. If you invite good friends, pick a great movie, serve themed food and decorate the room you’ll give your movie night guests the best catered party they’ve probably ever been to! Likewise, it’ll be easier to get them involved in the future. For an added bonus and feel request that your guests dress up. This works perfectly for westerns and other movies with simple, but diverse themes!
