4 Ways to Beat the Summer Heat

May 7, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Summer brings a lot of sun and a lot of heat. Don’t linger inside with the television for months waiting for it to cool down. Show summer who is boss by cooling off outside with the kids. Kids love playing in water. It will bring them hours of enjoyment. Bust out the hose with these great summer water activities with your kids.

1. The Classic Kiddie Pool

Kiddie pools are a great way to cool down in the shade. Kiddie pools can come cheap and will entertain your kids all summer. Just bust out the pool and fill it up with a hose. Your kids will be jumping around getting soaked for hours! You can do more than just the typical kiddie pool swim. For younger toddlers, you can set up toy fish and ducks in the water. Grab a net and go fishing! It is a fun way to interact with your kids while keeping them nice and cool.

2. The Sprinklers

Do you have a sprinkler system set up for your yard? Let your kids get soaked with the water you were already using for your yard. Get a greener lawn and happier kids.

3. The Hose

Maybe you just have a hose sitting around. Don’t let that stop you from having family fun. Turn on the hose and spray down your kids! Get involved and let them spray you too. You can do more than that with hoses. Take a leftover 2-liter bottle and poke holes out of the bottom. Attach a hose and you have yourself a sprinkler from the sky. Hold it over your kid’s head like a shower or toss it over tree branch. It is easy and fun for the whole family.

4. The Water Balloons

Have a big family? Do your kids have friends over? Pick sides. Declare a water balloon fight. Balloons are cheap and easy to come by. It takes a bit of time to fill them all up but it is well worth it. Split up the balloons and have at each other! Don’t be afraid to get in there and get wet. The whole family can get involved and get cool to beat the heat. There is more than just a water balloon fight to be had. How about water balloon pinatas? Fill up balloons with water and then hang them up. Put on a blindfold and grab a stick. Swing away and get wet!
