6 Stress-free Moving Tips for Your Summer Move

May 24, 2022 by Pam Maynard

Summer is notoriously known as the moving season in most of America. School is out, the weather is clear, and a lot of properties are on the market—widening your choices for a new place to call home. While moving in the summer may mean fewer stresses, there are still a few challenges hiding around the corner. For all you parents worrying about how to manage an upcoming relocation, here are six stress-free moving tips for your summer move.

Moving the Family across Country? How to Make the Move Less Daunting

Tip #1: Hire Professional Movers

While it may seem more cost-effective to do all the moving yourself, DIY moving could cost you more money and time than necessary. With DIY moves, you divide your attention into several tasks at a time. So, you end up covering less ground and wasting more time than you should.

A great way to work around this is to hire professionals to assist you with tasks such as packing, moving, and transporting your possessions. By doing this, you free yourself up for other responsibilities, e.g., making sure all your bills are paid, transferring your subscriptions to a different user, or even preparing yourself mentally for a big move.

Tip #2: Get Auto Shipping

Cars are among people’s most prized possessions. It costs a lot to buy and maintain—and it costs so much more to get repairs done. Avoiding road accidents is a great way to increase your vehicle’s longevity. On top of that, it’s also a way for you to save on insurance, maintenance, and repair costs.

When it comes to auto shipping, it’s definitely one of the most useful services when it comes to long distance moving. Check out this Montway’s auto transport guide to learn more about the whole process.

Things You Need When Shipping Your Car

Getting car shipping can help you protect your vehicle during a move. Not only do these companies train their movers on how to properly move vehicles, but they also carry cargo insurance. These policies obligate the shipping company to take care of repair/replacement fees in case accidents or errors happen during the shipment process.

Tip #3: Stay Hydrated

Traveling under the intense heat of the sun can easily dehydrate anyone. Preparing several bottles of clean drinking water to bring with you during your move is a great strategy to avoid dehydration. You can take a sip out of your bottles whenever you need.

If lugging around heavy water bottles isn’t your cup of tea, you could also plan your route to include places where you can get something to drink, e.g., gas stations, drive-throughs, diners, etc.

Moving Tips

Tip #4: Practice Proper Sun Care

Since you’ll be out and about for most of your move, you must practice proper sun care. Remember to apply sunscreen on your face, arms, and legs before you step into the sun. Furthermore, wear protective clothing—something that can shield you from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

Tip #5: Pack Properly

If there are things in your home you consider precious or one-of-a-kind, you should pack them up yourself instead of entrusting them to someone else. Although movers have been trained to do their job efficiently, they won’t have the same priorities or sentiments as you.

Consider making a packing list of all your important knick-knacks. Pick up all the packing tools and materials you need, e.g., bubble wrap, foam peanuts, packing tape, cardboard, scissors, etc. Make sure everything is wrapped with the proper materials to avoid errors during the shipping process.

Tip #6: Pay Attention to Pets

Moving TIps

Moving with pets can take a lot of work. You need to make sure they get everything they need, from food to potty breaks. Both can be tricky to get while on the road. Make your pets more comfortable with the move by planning their breaks, preparing them snacks, and keeping the air-conditioning running so they don’t overheat inside the car.

Final Thoughts

Relocating in the summer can be stressful and overwhelming, especially with children and pets around. Getting help from experienced movers can make the moving process much more manageable and less intimidating. Consider getting a shipping company to help you with packing, transporting, and storing your possessions during your move. You won’t regret making such a decision.
