Tips for Childproofing Your Cannabis

May 19, 2022 by Pam Maynard

As a responsible marijuana consumer, it is important to keep your products away from your children. Marijuana products can be harmful to children, and it is necessary to take precautions to ensure that they are not able to access them.

Additionally, it is illegal for children to consume these products in the United States, so you could find yourself in legal trouble if you leave your cannabis around the house in a careless way.

Fortunately, there are a lot of simple steps you can take to ensure that your kids don’t get into your stash. If you’re in need of advice, read on for some useful tips for childproofing your marijuana.

How can you childproof your marijuana?

Tips for Childproofing Your Marijuana

One of the most effective ways to avoid having your children gain access to your marijuana products is to always keep them in a child proof container. In order to be considered childproof, a container should have excellent durability so it can’t easily be broken or cracked.

It also needs a tamper-resistant top, as other types of lids may be easier for children to remove. Take the time to look for quality child-resistant packaging that you can use to store all of your cannabis products. This is also a great way to keep your products organized.

Where you store your marijuana products matters too. When it comes to storing marijuana products, there are a few key things to keep in mind. Firstly, it is crucial to keep your marijuana products in a cool, dark place. This will help to preserve their potency and flavor.

Secondly, you have to protect them from moisture and humidity, which can also degrade the product. You can consider a dab container which is a great way to store cannabis products.

Finally, and most importantly, the location should be inaccessible to children and pets.

If your child does get into your marijuana products, the best thing to do is call their pediatrician right away and ask for their advice.

Generally, if you’ve never used marijuana before, it’s a good idea to check with your physician before trying it for the first time. They can tell you how marijuana is likely to impact any health conditions you have or interact with prescription medications you’re currently taking.

What is the legal status of marijuana in the United States?

Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. However, the federal government has suspended enforcement at the state level and allowed each state to create its own legislative policies with regard to marijuana. So far, over 35 states have now legalized marijuana for medical use, while 18 states have legalized marijuana for recreational use.

Public opinion has shifted heavily in favor of legalization, and it is becoming increasingly widespread both in the United States and all over the world. It’s likely that more states will move towards legalizing marijuana soon, with many ballot measures and pieces of legislation on the way.

There are some cannabis products that are legal on a federal level. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp derivatives like cannabidiol (CBD), which was a major boon for the industry.

CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis that has potential therapeutic properties. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp oil.

Consumers say the experience is subtle and relaxing, which is preferable to the intense high associated with marijuana for some people.

Storing your Marijuana

As you can see, there’s a lot to learn about marijuana before you start purchasing products on your own. If you’re a parent or have kids in your home, you need to be careful where your cannabis products are stored.

Generally, they should always be in a cool, dark location that is inaccessible to children and pets. Products should also be in childproof containers so that if your child does find them, they will have difficulty actually consuming any of the marijuana itself.

If you have an issue with your child finding marijuana products, call their pediatrician for advice on what to do.
