If there is one thing I love, it’s finding a heartwarming story to share with my kids. Since they were babies, my husband and I would read to them daily. My kids are 6 and 8 years old and they read books to us now! Our bookshelves are overflowing with amazing books with great lessons and heartfelt messages.
When I was able to get my hands on the amazing book Guapo’s Giant Heart: The True Story of the Calf Who Kept Growing, I knew it would be a great addition to our amazing book collection. This book is one that can be read over and over.
Guapo’s Giant Heart: The True Story of the Calf Who Kept Growing is a touching story about calf who’s heart was just as big as he was! The story begins with him choosing Lynn to be his best human friend. They bond immediately and she names him Guapo. Lynn makes him feel safe and he has many friends at home.
One day, after becoming too big for his stall at home, he had to relocate to another place where other animals weren’t exactly welcoming. He yearned for his old friends companionship again. After being reunited with his best friend, the other animals realized that even though Guapo was much bigger than them, he had a great heart and they became wonderful friends!

My Thoughts:
When reading this book with my kids, I loved the simplicity of the story. It’s easy to follow and we loved the illustration. This book has a simple message of accepting people, or animals, even though they might appear different. My kids could see from Guapo’s point of view as a small calf and being treated differently as he grew.
It’s super important to me to have books for my kids that convey a positive message. Most noteworthy to me is that the book is based on a true story. To me, that makes a connection to the story more relatable. Overall, this heartwarming story is one you will want to read to your kids over and over again.
